This year instead of having a competi-tion at Spring Convention for the bestDivisional cheer, we are asking clubsand divisions (regions) to come up withnew and creative District cheers. TheDistrict has had the same cheers formany years now and we are coming upshort when we try to compete at the In-ternational Convention. We are lookingfor cheers that show spirit and fun in ourdivision. We would like the cheers to beoriginalandhaveour Dis-trictsome-howrepre-sented.A lot ofthecheersrelate to our District’s mascot, Milfordthe Duck, but the cheers do not have toinclude that. Please come with ideas orcheers ready so that when you are inyour divisional (regional) meetings, it willbe easier to come up with them.

For Spring Convention this year,we again have invited ScottGreenberg tocome speak. He tells moti-vational andinspirationalstories abouthis own ex-periences. The Tom P. Horan Distinguished Member Award is used torecognize an outstanding member who has gone above

and beyond the call of duty. Our aim is to award someonewhose achievements have gone unrecognized, but were

not unappreciated. In order to nominate a Key Club mem-ber for this award, a club president or advisor should submitthe application and an essay of 500 words or less explaining

why the individual deserves to be recognized. Each clubmay nominate up to two members each year. Listed are a

few of the criteria that the chosen member should meet:must have at least 50 hours of service completed, cannot

serve on the executive board, must be a paid member, etc.To find all the criteria for the Key Clubber to meet, go to

MinnDakKeyClub.org to view the application. The applica-tion, essay, and attached list of service projects completedshould be sent to your Lieutenant Governor or Liaison to be

reviewed. Attached to the application online is the contactinformation for your divisional representative so please get

this information in as soon as possible for review.

Award

The New Year has brought change upon our ideasand future hopes. The Minn-Dak Key Club DistrictBoard has come up with revisions that will be dis-cussed at the Spring Convention House of Dele-gates.

Membership dues will be raised from $10.50 to$11.00. We feel that the extra 50 cents is a smallamount of change that will have a huge impact dueto the amount of members that we have.

The new reserve ofmoney will be used forimproving conventions, and will hopefully offera discount to Key Club-bers who plan on at-tending District Con-ventions.

Early Dues should be inby November 1st of thecurrent school year andRegular Dues should besubmitted by December1st of the current school year.

A club is declared as suspended if they have notpaid their annual club dues by February 1st of thecurrent school year.

A club is declared as inactive if they have not paidtheir club dues from the previous year by October1st of the following school year.

Clubs that are inactive or suspended cannot attendconventions or obtain any type of award at the dis-trict level

An inactive club may be re-activated if they do thefollowing:

a. Fill out a chartering form

b. Pay their international dues

c. Pay the $100 re-instatement fee

A suspended club maybecome completely activeagain by paying theirdues for the currentschool year

The original by-laws saythat we must match theKiwanis Regions. We nowhave 7 Divisions to matchthe 7 Kiwanis Regions.Division 7 is split into 7Aand 7B. So we will now

have a total of 8 Lieutenant Governor positions.

We will also be discussing club by-laws in the Offi-cer Forum at Spring Convention. Officers and

administrators will be receiving a template thatcan be used to organize their personal club by-laws.

Hey Minn-Dak Key Clubbers! These past few months have been

quite busy on the International Board, buteven more so in working with my three dis-tricts. As International Trustee of the Minne-sota-Dakotas, Montana, and PacificNorthwest Key Club districts, I make it mypriority to maintain consistent communica-tion with each of my District Governors.More importantly, I make it a point to learnabout my District Governors not only asKey Club members, but as regular peers.Through learning about their interests andthe people behind the position role, I amable to further understand their leadershipstrengths. Starting in November, I have setup conference calls with Lieutenant Gov-ernors, Executive District Officers, and Dis-trict Administrators/Asst District Administra-tors to discuss Key Club-related concerns, updates, and opinions that have im-mensely increased my awareness of divi-sional activities and statuses. The invalu-able information that I am provided with istaken into consideration when decidingon new directives for the second quarter.Beyond obtaining new updates, I haveenjoyed every single conversation with thepeople I communicate with. The phoneconferences have bridged the gap be-tween the International level and districtlevel, allowing us to understand each oth-ers’ roles and move forward together.

On the International Voice Commit-tee, directives have been finalized for thesecond quarter. Several adjustments havebeen made at the November Interna-tional Board Meeting, which have im-proved individual board member perform-ance, communication among the Interna-tional Board, and maintenance of strong

support for each district. In addition toworking on directives and touching baseon board perform-ance expectations, the November Inter-national Board Meet-ing also served as atime for LeadershipCommittee membersto review Youth Op-portunities Fund ap-plications. The YouthOpportunities Fundgrants recipients willbe announced thisweek, so if your clubapplied for thisaward, make sure tocheck for updates onkeyclub.org!

The Key Club International Conven-tion 2011 in Phoenix, Arizona is coming upin just a few months, but preparation is keyto making the most out of your experi-ence. ICON is the place to be this summer. It is important that you plan ahead bymaking the dates June 29-July 3 available,so you don’t miss it! You can visitwww.keyclub.org for updates on Interna-tional Convention. Don’t forget to sign upfor the e-mail updates!

All in all, these past few monthshave been incredible. From filling out re-ports to meeting the three districts in per-son, I have been able to experience vari-ous aspects of Key Club International. Thework load has been manageable and thepersonal experiences that my fellow KeyClub friends have shared with me are trulyinspiring.
