Circle of Friends Preschool

Circle of Friends Preschool: 952-226-0956

Circle of Friends Preschool was established in 1995 and is part of the Prior Lake-Savage School District. Our mission is to provide a safe environment where young children of all abilities can grow and experience success, and their parents

can be partners in learning.

We serve children who are 3, 4 and 5 years old with a program that combines developmentally appropriate skills with academic learning opportunities. We help prepare children to enter kindergarten with the skills needed to progress and succeed by collaborating with district kindergarten and early childhood special education staff.

• Circle of Friends Preschool • ECFE Classes • Home Visits

• Parent Resources • Parent Education

Family ConnectionsThis class is offered to families who have children, infants to 5 years of age, who have special needs. It is a collaboration between Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) and Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE). Our class is a great opportunity for you and your child to meet other families that are confronted and dealing with struggles and joys of raising a child who has special needs. It is also a wonderful time to see an ECSE teacher or team of teachers in action working with your child in a social setting. Our ECSE and ECFE teams will be available for individual consultation as well. Parents will have an opportunity to meet as a group with an ECFE parent educator to discuss issues and gain resources that are relevant to you and your family. There is no fee for this class; however preregistration is necessary. If you are interested, contact your special education teacher or case manager.

E-mail a Parent Educator:ECFE is offering a wonderful service. Anytime you have a

question about parenting just e-mail your question or concern. One of our licensed parent educators will respond with information to help you make wise parenting decisions.

[email protected]

Home Visits: 952-226-0950 ECFE can come to you! Home Visits can be arranged if you

are unable to attend an ECFE class at the Family Center. If you have questions regarding your infant, toddler or preschooler and would like to discuss them at home, schedule a one-on-one home visit with a licensed parent educator. A licensed teacher can bring toys and activities to you at home and provide information on:

• Setting Goals• Solving Problems• Learning Through Play

• Developmental Stages• Parenting Challenges• Community Resources

School Readiness: 952-226-0956School Readiness helps families with children 3-5 years

of age prepare for a successful school experience. If you have concerns but are not eligible for services from other local programs, this may be for you. School Readiness provides learning experiences for children and parents before children enter Kindergarten. Scholarships and reduced fee

Family Center Programs

Early Childhood Screening: 952-226-0975The early childhood years, from birth to the start of kindergarten,

are an important time of rapid learning and growth. Early Childhood Screening is a quick and simple check of how your child is doing at age three to four.

The screening process identifies, at an early age, possible health or learning concerns so children can get help before starting school. All children need to be screened before enrolling in kindergarten.

If your child is of screening age and you’d like to schedule an appointment, or if you are conscientiously opposed to screening, please contact our office.

i was a really gooD mom BeFore i haD KiDs!All AgesAs mothers, we put too much pressure on ourselves. We have an unrealistic image of what a “good” mom is. We secretly compare ourselves to other moms, who seem to have it all together. We think we need to be perfect all the time. We feel alone. Our lives feel out of balance. The idea is to be true to ourselves, to make conscious choices based on our own value systems (not others’ expectations of us), and to live our lives in ways that serve our own best interests and those of our families. If we can get a grip on our insane expectations, perhaps we can stop judging ourselves and other moms, learn to say no when we need to, embrace our daily lives, nurture ourselves and our husbands, and maybe relax and find peace! Only then can we begin to love motherhood as much as we love our children.Parent separation

wonDering how to get more involveD with your ChilD’s eDuCation? the eCFe aDvisory CounCil wants you!The ECFE Advisory Council is comprised of Edgewood staff, parents and community members. Its main function is to provide guidance and support for comprehensive and balanced programs for children ages birth to five and their families. The Council focuses on early childhood program development, budget issues and fundraising. Recently the council organized their first Kids’ Stuff Consignment Sale. It was a great success and raised nearly $1000 for the Family Center Programs. We hope next year will be even more successful!

As a council member, I have found the time commitment to be very manageable and have enjoyed getting to know the staff and fellow parents better, not to mention being more involved with my daughter’s education. The ECFE Advisory Council meets monthly with free child care provided. It really is a great way to contribute and truly understand the great things the Prior Lake-Savage Early Childhood Family Center is doing for our children and the community. We are so lucky to have access to the wonderful facilities at Edgewood School

but more importantly to fantastic teachers and staff. If you want to be a part of the ECFE Advisory Council stop into Edgewood’s Family Center Office to pick up an application or contact Deb Williams, Edgewood Principal at 952-226-0900.
