An Advisory Council and its work provide evidence and accountability to external agencies and the public

that academic programs meet needs which are appropriate to the community college mission.  In

particular, a Council’s input adds substance to the requests and recommendations of departmental

chairs/heads and faculty related to curriculum, equipment, facilities and program review action plans.

Fiscal Implications:

None

Consequences of Negative Action:

Lack of individual expertise and career experiences on the Advisory Council.  Furthermore, an inability to

adhere to the Middle States Accreditation and SUNY regulations for academic programs.

Steps Following Approval:

Letters will be sent by President Quinn to individuals confirming appointment.

Objectives A well respected NYS Certified Paramedic with over 33 years of experience in the field of

Emergency Services. Throughout this expansive volunteer and professional career, I have had the

privilege to work as a Firefighter, Dispatcher, Paramedic, Tactical Paramedic, Instructor and Manager

for multiple Municipal, Private and Not for Profit EMS and Law Enforcement Agencies. By

implementing various programs for these organizations, I have greatly enhanced their capabilities. A

joint Rescue Task Force has been formed in the Town of Orchard Park under my guidance. By

integrating Fire, Law Enforcement and EMS into this Rescue Task Force Unit we have enhanced our

lifesaving capabilities. By implementing Quality Assurance Programs for dispatchers and a Computer

Aided Dispatch program I enhanced the capabilities and stream lined the processes of Springville Rre

Control. Through instructional, mentoring and leadership opportunities at multiple companies, I

have given new providers the confidence and ability to successfully achieve a career in emergency

services. Positive personal interactions with business associates from multiple agencies have enabled

me to achieve goals that were thought to be insurmountable. I will bring this knowledge and

background to my position as member of Erie Community College Emergency Medical Technology

Department Advisory Committee.

BACKGROUND SUMMARY

I graduated from Alfred State College in 1972, with an A.A.S. degree in agricultural engineering.

I began my career with the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets on March

21, 1974 as a Dairy Products inspector. During my tenure with the Department I obtained

extensive experience in all aspects of the regulated dairy industry through direct fieldwork

activities, and participated in all available on-going Division training.

My position was upgraded to Dairy Products Specialist in 1980, following which I performed

substantial"out-of-title" supervisory and employee training activities, and eventually was

promoted to supervisor of the Western New York counties in 2004.

I consistently received top ratings in semi-annual Departmental evaluations, and given all

advanced training until my retirement in October 2008.

Personal Expertise

Technological changes in the dairy food industry requires continuous updating and

training, and my personal quest has always been to obtain the best training and experiences

available in order to work with dairy businesses of all sizes.

I have been a trainer for New York State Dairy Product Specialists and the W.N.Y. food

industry for over 30-years, including Cornell University updates, SUNY Buffalo State College

certificate programs, and Western New York seminars.

My strongest abilities lie with my communication skills and interpersonal working

relationships with dairy and food industry, regulatory, and academic personnel, and my efforts

at continuous personal and personnel improvement. I received recognition awards as Dairy

Products Specialist of the Year, Directors Awards for Outstanding Investigations (_6 times), and

, Buffalo State College Department of Nutrition.

Since my retirement from the Department, I have been continuously involved in

consulting activities concerning USPH compliance, HAACP and SQF (Global Food Safety

Initiative) certifications in Upstate New York and Southern Ontario, Canada.

Planning Board of Environmental Sciences

Erie Community College

6205 Main Street

Williamsville, NY 14221

Dear Mr. Danna:

This letter is my request to remain on the Planning Board for Environmental Sciences at Erie Community College. Much of my 25 year consulting career has been in the environmental/earth engineering fields, and I believe I would have a lotto offer ECC in these areas.

I have passed all the traditional undergraduate and graduate-level science classes typical of Bachelor and Master of Science degrees including biology, chemistry, calculus, physics, geography, and geology. My M.S. degree involved the geochemical determination of paleo-temperatures in the Black Hills, South Dakota, using a two-mica geothermometer. My post-M.S. work involved determining Pressure/Temperature paths in the Ruby Range in Montana by determining the chemistry of garnet zoning.

Parallel to the above geochemisty work, I also studied hydrogeology, which became my career for the next 2 5 years. As a hydrogeologist with environmental consultancies, I gained broad experience in environmental investigations and remediation in a diverse field of projects, including hazardous waste disposal facilities, renewable energy, water supply projects, former manufacturing plants, manufactured coal gas sites, and underground mines. More recently, I have been directing projects in the Oil & Gas field including impoundment construction, regulatory compliance, and spill investigation and remediation. I am familiar with the process of high-volume hydraulic fracturing and have observed an on-site well frack at a site in Pennsylvania. I remain well connected to a variety of operators of the above sites as well as former colleagues and believe I could offer professional support and ideas for students entering the workforce or transferring into related majors at other colleges.

Best regards,

DavidWehn
