Back to School! Here are some words of wisdom from our fearless leader, now go do great things!

• The bandroom will be open before and after school for band students only.  Feel free to drop off your stuff and mingle before heading to class.

• Bandroom doors will be locked throughout the day except for the morning before the first bell. Once school has started, everyone needs to check into the front office.

• If you plan on eating lunch in the bandroom you must clear the hallways before the tardy bell and you cannot leave the bandroom until the bell rings.

• Parents: do not use the skillet to drop off students or pick up. The skillet is only for parking pass holders only.

• Muggles are not allowed in the bandroom.

• Be mindful that cell phone policies are stricter (direct referrals).

Advice:

• If you don’t have assigned seating, band students sit front and center.

• It’s much easier to stay in time than it is to catch up. Take good notes, pay attention, and start working on homework and projects the day they are assigned.

• If you have a difficult course/topic talk to cadre or the staff.  We

• Refer to all teachers by their formal title: Mr. and Mrs. & Yes, sir and thank you. ma’am. Never just call a teacher by their last name even in conversation with your peers.

• Teachers love band students for a reason, don’t break the tradition!

• Don’t stress out about your first day outfit or trying to look cool. The people that try are often the ones that fail the hardest. Chances are most everyone around you is just as nervous, anxious, and scared.

• Meet new people. Introduce yourself and learn new names.

• Be friendly to everyone, but be extremely selective of your friends. Have high standards for them and yourself.

• When all else fails…go to the bandroom.  We will always be there.

Can’t wait to see everyone on a daily basis–we’ve some great adventures ahead of us! PS be sure to have your pep-band life together, we have a football game this Friday!

DID YOU KNOW?

The FMSD assesses a $100 activity fee for all band students (as well as athletes). This fee goes directly to the district to defray costs of activity buses and costs of the program, NOT TO THE BAND. You may pay this fee by accessing the “pay fees” tab on the district website or by clicking here. The fee is listed as “band fee 2019-2020” under the tab for “course fees.” IMPORTANT: THIS FEE MUST BE PAID PRIOR TO THE FIRST HOME FOOTBALL GAME (8/23) OR YOUR CHILD WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE. This is a district-wide policy, we appreciate your support!

GOLF CAR RAFFLE:

Reminder, there will be two drawings of a $100 band credit for a band family who sells at least 20 golf car raffle tickets. 20 tickets sold by a family is the prerequisite to get your family entered into both the September 5th drawing (tickets in by 08/31) and the October 1st drawing (tickets in by 9/28). If you miss the deadline for the September 5th drawing, you still have a chance to be added to those who already sold 20 tickets for the second $100 band credit drawing on October 1st. Remember to sell all of your required 10 tickets plus an additional 10 tickets by 8/31 to be entered into both drawings for a chance to win a total of $200 in band fee credits. Congratulations to the 15 families who already qualify for both drawings as each of these families have sold at least 20 golf car raffle tickets: Wilkins, Wentz, Taylor, Striegel, Stickley, Safnauer, Proulx, Nastiuk, Mucci, Moughan, Miaskiewicz, McCabe, Kern, Jameson & Campbell families. We also have the following 8 families who are so close with less than 10 tickets to sell before 8/31 to be entered into both $100 band credit raffles: Wichmann, Welsh, Sims, Powers, Highfill, Grupp, Davis & Dailey families. Scrip is an “ebates” style way of giving the band a portion of your everyday purchases. Go to MyScripWallet.com and save the shortcut to your phone. Set your account with the band code C955FE2564L52. Then link to your bank account for higher rewards in online payments. You can purchase e-cards from your favorite stores, and then use those gift cards when making your purchases. We are encouraging the use of e-cards, but we can order physical gift cards as well. The cut off for ordering those will be 10/17. For example, if you know you need back to school clothes at Old Navy, you can purchase an Old Navy gift card through scrip, then use that card when you buy the clothes. A % of the total amount purchased through scrip will go back into the band account, and it will be split 50/50 with your personal Cut Time account. The amounts vary by store, so take this time before our “official” roll out to become familiar with the system. Hint: Amazon is one of the participating vendors! Let’s get shopping and earn on the go!!!
