REBBETZIN’S CORNER
Dear YIEB Families,
Living in East Brunswick for the last two and
a half years has afforded me the opportunity
to not only create friendships with the
members of YIEB but to be involved with
various educational programs and initiatives
at the Shul. Over the last number of months,
I have been actively involved with the
Stephanie Shatkin Mikveh of YIEB. I have
learned that our Mikvah has a rich history as
it was dedicated in memory of a beloved
member of our community, Stephanie
Shatkin, a”h. I have heard about the
dedicated volunteers who were involved in
creating and building the Mikvah and who
have overseen its operation. At the same
time, I have some concern about the
Mikvah’s future. The physical state of the
Mikvah is deteriorating; there is a need for a
new dehumidification system, there are
corroded coils and the titles are damaged.
It’s not the beautiful and attractive Mikvah
that it once was. I have worked together with
the Mikvah Board to secure a $50,000
matching grant from Mikveh USA for our
Mikvah renovations. This will ensure that our
Mikvah is one that we are proud of!
Additionally, based on input from many YIEB
members, our Mikvah Board feels strongly
that it is time to build our own Keilim Mikvah
to be used to Tovel new dishes. On behalf of
the Mivkah Board I am asking you to please
participate in our Mikvah fundraiser. You
have received invitations and please see a
short video (http://tinyurl.com/yiebmikvah)
to give you all the details you need. Please
watch it, be inspired and join our campaign
to ensure that our Mikvah remains an
integral part of our community.
I’m confident that with everyone’s help and
participation, we can look forward to a
beautiful renovated Mikvah and new Keilim
Mikvah.
Thank you for your support,
Sharon Weinstein

YIEB COMMUNITY STRATEGIC PLANNING
SURVEY
The Strategic Planning Committee expresses
its appreciation to the membership for the
strong participation in the Community
Strategic Planning Survey. The survey was
closed on April 6th. 75% of individuals in the
Shul responded to the survey and 90% of
families responded to the survey. For
perspective, a 35-40% response rate is
considered an excellent ratio in populations
with affinity for the subject or organization.
The Strategic Planning subcommittees are
now organizing the material for analysis, to
begin to draft the strategic plan. We will
arrange a presentation of survey information
to the community in the near future. Thank
you again for helping to direct the future of
our congregation.

Please make note of the following
congregational meetings:
1. Tuesday 4/23 8 PM - New roof for
the YIEB Educational Wing – As many of you
are aware, we have been having problems
with the educational wing roof leaking. We
anticipate that the cost of the roof
replacement will exceed $10,000 and as
such requires congregational approval.
2. Wednesday 5/29 8 PM:
• The slate of board of director
nominees for the 2013/2014 fiscal year will
be presented.
• Amendment to YIEB Constitution -
discussion and approval of a proposed
amendment to the Constitution of the
Congregation to eliminate a provision that
currently requires that, if the Congregation
ceases to exist, any net assets of the
Congregation shall inure to the National
Council of Young Israel (NCYI). We are now
amending our Constitution because NCYI
recently voted, 67-1-1, to amend its charter
to eliminate this requirement, thus
authorizing branches like YIEB to remove
such provisions from their governing
documents. Approval of this Amendment
requires the consent of 2/3 of the members
voting at the meeting.
3. Thursday 6/27 8:45 PM:
• Slate of board of director nominees
for the 2013/2014 fiscal year will be voted
on.
• Budget presentation – The
Treasurer will review the 2012/2013 results
and introduce the 2013/2014 budget for
congregational approval.
