March Newsletter Easter Celebrations at Grace Good Friday (March 25) We will be hosting two Good Friday Services, one at Noon and the other at 7:00 pm. We can’t wait to see you there. Easter Celebration (March 27) Join us on Easter Sunday at one of our 4 services. 8:00 am in the Fellowship Hall (Nursery Care available) 9:30 am in the Fellowship Hall (Nursery – 8 th Grade available) 9:30 am in the Surfside Room as overflow (Nursery – 8 th Grade Available) 11:00 am in the Fellowship Hall with Pastor Steve (Nursery – 8 th Grade Available) We expect our services to be very busy so please plan ahead. If you are able to attend the 8:00 am service to make some space at 9:30 or 11:00 am services that would be appreciated. Also, parking will be tight. The Men of Grace invite you to join us on Saturday March 5 at Malarkeys Grill in Long Beach at 830 am Pastor Emeritus Don Shoemaker will be sharing some insights about end of life issues Pastor Don writes When my mother came down with cancer in 1986 Mary and I had no experience in caring for the terminally ill or the passing of an immediate member of the family All that changed I experienced more than I wanted to experience and learned more than I wanted to know But the whole experience made me better able to shepherd the flock of God I also have followed developments on

For many the words ldquomission fieldrdquo conjures up images of exotic vistas and crowded urban centers bubbling with unfamiliar languages These are missions fields but they are not the only ones In their book ldquoThe Art of Neighboringrdquo Jay Pathak and Dave Runyon challenge people to take some often amplified words of Jesus at face value and rethink the concept of mission fields In Luke 10 Jesus recounts a story about a Samaritan who is willing to cross cultural boundaries and help a Jewish person left for dead by robbers The story was offered in response to a question posed by a religious leader Jesusrsquo story challenged this man to stop looking for excuses as to who he should love and not love but today we have taken this teaching and as Pathak and Runyon explain used it to get out of loving people ldquoIf we say lsquoeveryone is my neighborrsquo it can become an excuse for avoiding the implications of following the great commandment Our lsquoneighborsrsquo become defined in the broadest of terms Theyrsquore the people across town the people who are helped by the organizations that receive our donations the people whom the government helps We donrsquot have to feel guilty we tell ourselves After all we canrsquot be expected to really love everybody can we The problem is however that when we aim for everything we hit nothingwe make a metaphor of [our] neighbors-a metaphor that doesnrsquot involve the person who lives next door to ushellipin addition to thinking of our neighbor metaphorically we need to apply Jesusrsquo teaching to our literal neighbors-real people with real names phone numbers and addressrdquo Letrsquos do a little mental exercise offered up by the authors to gauge your level of involvement in the mission fields right outside your door try and name the people who live in the 6 adjoining residences around your home three across the street to the left and right and over the back wall If you can do that take it a step further and also note some basic info about them from memory if you are two for two so far recount to yourself what deeper personal info you know about them How did you do Yoursquove got 6 mission fields right outside your door letrsquos start here and see what God has for you Ref ldquoThe Art of Neighboring by Jay Pathak and Dave Runyon

Minister of the Month Roxanne Luckey
Roxanne is our Minister of the Month Roxanne has grown up in our church and is currently an active member of our high school youth group In addition to participating in the many youth group activities Roxanne teaches Sunday School in our Childrenrsquos Ministry Department leads worship for our Middle School program is a member of our High School Worship Band and serves on our High School Leadership Council Roxanne is truly a blessing to our church and an excellent role model for our Middle School and High School students Thanks Roxanne for your work here at Grace
