This is nothing but a rumour. I have called Julius Malema an idiot and I am calling him an idiot again. “The DA will never go into a coalition with idiots and crimi- nals. Julius Malema is much like his father, President Jacob Zuma, who he was going to die for and then he decided to rather ‘kill’ him and has now formed his own party,” said Rodgers in Kokstad during a DA delegation to engage with the business and farming communities of the Harry Gwala region on Friday at Oak Park Guesthouse. He was with the DA Deputy Shadow Minister of Rural Devel- opment and Land Reform Kevin Mileham before they proceeded to the Underberg Country club to talk to farmers and business people. Rodgerssaidiftheydidnotwin in Gauteng they would rather be the opposition than enter into a coalition because they learnt a lot during their coalition governing in the Western Cape a few years back. “We are not going into a coali- tion with criminals and even if there is a need, we won’t with Malema’s party because he is still facing tax fraud. In Gauteng the DA is faced with the challenge of the EFF. The scale is tipping slightly against us, but I want to be clear about rumours that we are going into a coalition with EFF. There is nothing like that,” said Rodgers. He said in the Northern Cape and Gauteng their pools look very good and they have a chance of winning these provinces from the ANC to govern three provinces, including the Western Cape. He said in 2019 the political landscape of South Africa will change totally and there will be anotherpoliticalparty, otherthan ANC, in power. He said they had heard stories that they are a white organisation and don’t have the support of the masses and nothing will change, they are just the opposition, a mostly white representation. “In the deep rural areas of Umzimkhulu in Ward 18 last year we had a by-election contested by black candidates. In 2011 we got less than one percent of the vote, but last year in the by-election we got almost 30% in the same ward. It is a clear indication that the mood on the ground is definitely changing,” said Rodgers. He said he believed this elec- tion will be the biggest decline of the ANC since 1994. The Harry Gwala regional EFF commissar Dumisani Dlamini described Rodger’s comments as “shamed” and “strange”. “It is strange in today’s democ- racy to find a white man insulting a black man [calling him] an idiot and a criminal yet expecting the same black man to vote for him. “The DA is in alliance with the National Party and Consecutive Party. Those were the brutal monsters of apartheid.” He said the Economic Free- dom Fighters will never get into bed with those “apartheid prosti- tutes” because they have nothing in common. He said Hellen Zille is just another monkey who dances around trying to impress the same black voters his de- mon Rodgers is in- sulting. Dlamini called them thieves and criminals who stole their land and exploited their economy. “The EFF seeks to address those issues, which are to expro- priate our land without compen- sation and the nationalisation of mines. “As for Rodgers, he is just manipulating our black people to support him to protect white business. He knows nothing and he doesn’t care about our communities except using them to protect their own interest.” PHOTO: KHAYA MAGENU KZN Democratic Alliance Deputy Chairperson Francois Rodgers. Our district has a good story totell about changing the lives of itsresidents over the past two de-cades. Residents have been calledupon to embrace one another inhonour of the legacy of the formerpresident, Nelson Mandela, as theFreedom Flame landed on ourshores.

The torch travelled to eMqatsh-eni in Ward 1 in the Kwa Sani Munic-ipality where the district mayor, Cllr

Ndobe and the Kwa Sani Munici-pality Mayor Cllr Banda and gov-ernment officials addressed thoseon the auspicious occasion atMqatsheni hall, one of the projectsthe Kwa Sani Municipality is proudof. Dignitaries then proceeded tothe nearby clinic built by the De-partment of Health. This state-of-the-art health-care facility willservice thousands of people inWard 1 and areas such as Lotheni,Stepmore, etc. The flame thenwent to Underberg, the purpose ofwhich was to visit the UnderbergWater Works which provides waterto the people of Underberg andHimeville. Indeed, Kwa Sani hasbecome a better place to live insince 1994.

The flame was well received at

Kwa Sani and residents were re-minded of the achievements thegovernment has made during thepast20years. Banda alludedtothestrides and efforts made by theKwa Sani Municipality in changingthe lives of people for the better.

The flame then travelled to lo-cal municipalities in the district, and celebrations and festivitieswere planned as the flame madeit way through the district.

The main event was held at theUbuhlebezwe Municipality wherethe unveiling of the statue of oneof South African heroes — HarryGwala — took place, hence theirstruggle for liberation was not invain.

Till we meet again, be patrioticas Kwa Sani citizens.
