Solar System• There are 8 planets in the solar system. Five of them are

dwarf planets.• Mercury- The surface of Mercury is heavily cratered, really

old, and doesn’t have any plate tectonics.• Venus- Venus has a young surface and is also called

Earth’s sister planet.• Earth- Earth also has a young surface and 71 perfect of

Earth’s surface is water.• Mars- Mars surface is very rough and has a thin

atmosphere.• Jupiter- Jupiter is the fourth largest object in the sky, it is

also very rocky.• Saturn- Saturn’s rings are really thin and don’t have a lot

of material in them.• Uranus- Uranus is mostly made up of rock and a lot of ices.• Neptune- Neptune is also made up of a lot of ices, rock,

some hydrogen, and a little helium.

Inner Planets• The inner planets also known as the

terrestrial planets are much rockier and smaller. The inner planets are also much warmer then the outer planets. Most of them only have 1 or no moons.

Outer Planets• There are also 4 outer planets,

Jupiter, Uranus, Saturn, and Neptune. The outer planets are also called Jovian planets or the Gas giants. The outer and inner planets are a like in many ways but the outer planets are bigger and are made up of some different things.

Earth’s Surface• About 70% of Earth’s surface is made

of water. Earth has a very thick and rocky crust and its tectonic plates are really floating. Earths plates are constantly moving because the lithosphere has a a higher strength and a lower density.

Mar’s Surface• Mar’s surface is really dry and rocky, which is

made up of old volcanoes and impact craters. Mars is very small, its radius is half the size of Earth. The surface of Mars is only 28% of Earth’s surface, but it is almost equal to all the dry land on Earth.

• Some of Mar’s rovers are Mars 1, Mars 2, Sojourner, Curiosity, Spirit, and Opportunity. Opportunity found some signs of water on one of the first rocks that it came up on.

Curiosity • Curiosity is one of the rovers

that is on Mars. It is about the size of a car. It is also about 2.5 billion dollars. It uses 10 different science instruments to help answer the question once it touches down on Mars. It has discovered many things on Mars.

How Earth and Mars Are Alike• Earth and Mars are similar in their

days. • The axial tilt on Mars is really close to

Earths.• They both have canyons, valleys,

craters, volcanoes, ice caps, storms, and seasons.

• They have the same amount of dry land.

How Earth and Mars Are Different

• Earths atmosphere is made up of 77% nitrogen and 21% oxygen and Mars’ is made up of 95% carbon dioxide.

• Mars’s season last twice as long as Earths.

• Mars is half the diameter of Earth.

Conclusion

• I learned a lot of new and cool things about Earth and Mars that I didn’t know before!
