Walter Raleigh funds an expeditionary voyage from Plymouth to America to investigate whether it would be possible to set up a colony.

The company lands in America and spends the next month searching for a suitable place to establish a settlement.A colony is established on Roanoke Island. Ralph Lane is made Governor.

Summer - Relations with the Amerindians (NA group) are good and the settlers receive a lot of help from them.Winter - Relations with the Amerindians start to deteriorate. The Amerindians no longer help supply the colony with food and the settlement is attacked.

Nobody knows what happened to the colony after this date.

At Roanoke, the party finds the word CROATOAN carved on a tree. Governor White decides that the settlers must have moved to Croatoan. He also decides that they must not have been in any danger as there was no cross carved near the name - the sign that White had agreed with the settlers before he left.

"...the Spanish travelled all over the southern and western halves of North America looking for it. On their travels they encountered many Indian tribes who were given the opportunity to convert to Christianity or be put to death as heretics. You see, the Spanish were not just after gold, they were also in the New World to spread the Catholic faith. So, any Indian tribe which rejected the Catholic faith was either killed or forced into slavery. It was a very brutal business but the Spanish were perfectly willing to commit extreme acts of violence and even genocide in the name of religion and in their quest for gold."Source - http://gs2americanstudies.blogspot.com/
