Machines must meet minimum hardware requirements - Hardware Requirements - FAQ #5073.

• See Confirming Hardware Requirements – FAQ 39184 for additional information

Browsing must work properly. Go to Network. Double-click the Server Computer. Double-click the Shared-

Out Data Folder. Verify this function works properly (not just start | \\servername):

• IF YES: When browsing across the network, it must not prompt for a username and password.

• IF NO: Make sure Network Discovery is turned on and services are running - Network Discovery - FAQ 19189.

o If Network Discovery is turned on and still does not see the server machine, advise hardware technician

machine needs to see the server on the network. If our hardware, work with the Hardware Team.

Power Management Settings on the NIC can cause a computer to slow or lose network connection after a certain

amount of inactivity. We recommend disabling this setting.

• Go to Start | Control Panel | System | Device Manager. Expand Network Adapter (if multiple adapters are

listed steps have to be done on each adapter.

Eaglesoft Server Maintenance

DAILY - Stop Eaglesoft Database Engine

• This step is necessary to obtain a current, valid backup, which is recommended daily. If the backup is

attempted while the engine is running, the files may not copy successfully.

• See Backup Recommendations - FAQ 206 for additional information.

WEEKLY - Stop Eaglesoft Database Engine and Reboot

• Stopping the Eaglesoft Database Engine before a server reboot allows any active connections to the engine to

be disconnected before the reboot.

• The weekly reboot of the server allows the server to refresh. Computers store information in short term

memory and keeps that in a cache for quicker retrieval. Once that cache gets too large, it can cause slowness,

lockups, and other issues to occur. In order to clear this cache, it is recommended to reboot the server

computer once a week minimum.

• In addition, this will allow the opportunity for any necessary Windows updates to be applied to the computer.

• This proactive preventive action can be completed outside of normal business hours and will, overall, save you

time!

Eaglesoft Workstation Maintenance

DAILY - Shut Down or Reboot

• This step is recommended for the same reasons of rebooting the server weekly, to refresh memory and allow

the computer to perform faster.

• This is recommended daily since workstations have more direct usage and activity being performed as well as

potentially, and most often, not having as many resources as a server would have.

• Best practice is to turn off the workstations at night and then turning them on each morning.

network setup meets recommendations for best performance.

• Many third-party applications are

setup for regular syncs or tasks. It is recommended to perform these syncs and tasks outside of normal

business hours at a time when patients are not being seen.

• This is a proactive measure to avoid over utilizing resources that are needed for regular day to day software

and network usage.
