Welcome to all Newtown & Chilwell Mem-

bers & Supporters to this edition of the

Eagles Nest.

We are now well an truly into the football

and netball season, our Colts and GJFL

section of the Club have completed their

grading games and now settled into their

respective Divisions, our Colts have

gained a position in Division 1 which will

hopefully mean they will once again be

playing at the same ground as our senior

teams.

We host St Joseph’s Football & Netball

Club this week and hope that this will

generate a large crowd at the club, don’t

forget if you can’t get to the game you

can listen to it on FM 99.5 live.

The past fortnight

has produced

some mixed but

pleasing results for

the Colts.

Round 3 saw the boys go down to

Drysdale by 16 points in a game

where we had every opportunity to

take the points. Not taking ad-

vantage of a handy breeze in the

third quarter probably cost us the

points in the end.

Saturday we ventured out to the

Snake Pit to take on Lara in the final

grading game. Lara jumped out of

the blocks and led by 9 points at

quarter time. Our boys came out in

the second and played like a team

possessed kicking 7.8 to 1 goal to

lead and half time by 35 points,

which in the end would be the final

margin. Tom Driver produced his

best game for the club booting 5

goals in a best on ground perfor-

mance from centre half forward and

was backed up by excellent games

from Jordy Malden, Oscar Doyle and

Kieran McNally.

With the grading out of the way and

performances that have assured a

division 1 birth, we now look to

matching it each week with the best

junior teams in the region. Good

luck for the remainder of the year

lad’s.

2012 Junior Coordinator

The Divisions for 14 & 16 Comps have been allocated. There may be room for movement in the coming two games depending on results. All sides look like they have a challenging year ahead, we may have been placed in Divisions a little high but in saying that what a great ex-perience for the boys and girl to develop and go against the best of their age groups. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Coaches for the hard work in Pre Season and preparing the players for Season 2012. Pre Season may have seen the whip cracked a little in 14/16 Divi-sions but by all accounts the players are loving it and bonding well with Coaches and Team Mates. Make sure you let Coaches know if you can't make Training or games. Our Youth girls are off to an extremely successful start to the Season being 4 and zip. They are dishing out some great defeats and having a ball, despite some injury blows. If you get the opportunity get down to Winter Reserve on a Sunday morning and watch the girls in action. Congrats again to Lily Mithen and Bec Goring who represent Vic in a National Competition next week. We did lack a few numbers in the first few weeks but teams now have adequate numbers. We have several new Coach-es and Team Managers this Season who are doing a fantastic job under the guid-ance of our seasoned Coaches/Team Manager veterans. As parents and play-ers please be mindful and assist them in any way possible. Parent Duty Rosters have been completed so pay attention to those, If you unable to fulfill your duty please arrange a swap and let the Team Manager know. Some games 9-12 are still subject to change after the fixture has been com-pleted. Coaches will announce game times/venues at Training on Thursday nights. It's not likely they will change after that but please make sure your

More info in fol-lowing Newsletters. JUNIOR TRIVIA NIGHT- is booked for Sat. 9th June. If you want to book a table please see myself, Karen Bour-damis or your Team Manager. It's al-ways a fun night and great way to meet some new people. We are still seeking donations, if you can help in any way it would be appreciated. From past experi-ence smaller items and services are al-ways well sought after. such as: Gar-dening, hairdressing vouchers etc. Great form of sponsorship for the Club. This Thursday night we will again be selling apparel. We have discounted prices to move stock out the door. We have items selling such as: Tracksuits pants, scarves, socks, hoodies, the new Bomber Jackets which look great and are becoming popular, among other things. Pauline Taylor Netball Coordinator What a display of great netball last

Saturday by ‘Newtown & Chilwell

Senior Netball Group’. From 19’s

through to A grade we were impres-

sively competitive against a club that

sits in the top 4 on the ladder across

all senior grades with Newtown &

Chilwell running away with 3 wins

out of 5 senior games. For those

who watched ‘A’ grade were very

entertained by an absolute nail bitter

of a game with a one goal victory.

Terrific team work!

Overall every player continues to

improve; teams are progressing well

and playing more consistent netball.

Our juniors are improving all the

time and implementing some good

structured netball, thanks to coaches

teaching systems. From 11’s through

to 17’s the girls are keen learn and

play well.

Keep up the great work!

Round 3 v’s St Albans

St Albans proved to again to be the

tough nut to crack in the hard fought

battle at their home ground. With

one of the six foot army from last

years battle replaced by someone

equally as tall, 2012 didn’t prove to

be any easier task for the new look

Eagles D Grade. In a neck and neck

battle from the first whistle to the

last, the game was another see-saw

battle for dominance with the game

being won by 3 goals in favour of

the Saints. Special mention has to go

to a first year Eagle, Jackie Read

who not only took on their GS giant,

but actually negated her dominance

on the score board – huge effort

Round 4 v’s GWSP

On a lovely day for netball the Ea-

gles ventured away from home turf

again this week to meet with GWSP.

In what was an unknown opponent,

the first quarter belonged only to

N&C. The rest of the game was

much more even with all the lead on

the scoreboard changing on quite a

few occasions. In the end GWSP

proved to be the more settled team

and came away with a 3 goal win.

The Eagles although disappointed,

are fired up for a very different out-

come when next we meet, so all that

can be said is GWSP look out!!

Heidi & Chloe Sutcliffe Coaches Under 19’s What a fantastic win this round by

the 19's. The girls went from

strength to strength and did not

have a poor quarter. Lots of changes

were made in the mid court, defen-

sive end and attacking end at every

break, however these changes didn't

seem to faze the girls at all. A spe-

cial mention must be made to Matil-

da Baker who played her best game

so far in GK and displayed terrific

determination and helped turn the

ball over to our advantage at every

opportunity. Our shooters Amy Lewis

and Emily Gleesen were on fire in

the goal circle and didn't seem to

miss. Fitness in the mid court

showed and our centre court players

were able to run out the game com-

fortably, making the transition down

to our attacking end run smoothly.

Leading comfortably the entire

game, our girls just seemed too

switched on to let Geelong West get

a sniff of victory. Very impressive

match and a well deserved win. We

look to carry on our form this week

at home against St.Josephs. Claire Edwards Coach 17 & Under Div 2

We came up against a very tough

GWSP opposition this week. On the

score board we went down, but the

girls are giving it their best, especial-

ly those thrown into different posi-

tions! Hopefully at training this week

we can work hard, learn some new

skills and come out firing against

Joey's.

Grace McKenna Coach 15 & Under Div 3 A great win again this week by the

girls. We’re lucky to welcome 3 new

players in Aleisha, Claudia and

new girls showed their skill and

dominance across the midcourt with

Aleisha also playing well in the goal

circle. Shooters Layla and Grace con-

tinue to work well together in the

goaling end and Jess and Brianna

are becoming a very tight defensive

team. Good work girls, let’s work

hard at training and see if we can

continue our good form.
