Recent Attacks/Terrorism in Paris
On November 13, 2015 tragedy struck Paris. On this night, a
series of planned terrorist attacks occurred, including suicide bombings
and mass shootings. These attacks killed 130 people and 352 were
injured. The 8 terrorists attacks started at around 8:20 p.m. local Paris
time and all of the attacks occurred within 4 miles from each other.
The first of the explosions started at a football (soccer) stadium,
while France was playing against Germany. The next attacksmoved into
central Paris opening fire on Petit Cambodge, a Cambodian restaurant
and Le Carillon bar on the opposite side of the street. The following
attacks that day happened in the Rue de la Fontaine au Roi B&B, a
pizzeria called Casa Nostra, 500 yards away from it and then at La Belle
Equipe bar in Rue de Charonne. Later that evening, theBataclan concert
venue was attacked and turned into the most deadly strike Paris has ever seen.
After 2 hours and 40 minutes of terrorists armed with guns and suicide vests shooting civilians, the
final order from the police was given. When police kicked down the door at the concert hall, they found 20
hostages. The attackers open fired while police rushed in to help the civilians. One policeman threw a stun
grenade, taking down one terrorist, while another terrorist detonated his vest, killing both himself and the
other terrorist. 89 people were killed at the concert hall that day and around 8:50 p.m. a third explosion was
heard near Stade de France killing onemore civilian. France struck back against the terrorists by launching
20 air strikes on a Syrian town to destroy an ISIS training camp. Several arrests were made and weapons
were seized in Paris, France. After the final battles, the French gathered at theNotre DameCathedraland
the Place de la Republique tomourn their loved ones while countries everywhere showed their support and
prayers by posting messages Stay Strong Paris and photos of the French flag.

Sports
Last Quarter ended our Fall sports season, which included
Girls’ Volleyball and Boys’ Football. The coaches for these fantastic
teams were Mr. Rappaport and Mr. Morlock for football, and Mrs.
Kallick and Ms. Glick for volleyball. For the first time on the football
team, we had an 8th grade girl participating, Bella Ramas! Our football
team had a hard working season with 3 wins and 5 losses. Our Girls’
Volleyball A Team had an impressive 6 wins and 2 losses, while our B
Team had an incredible year of just 1 loss and 8 winning games. All of
our teams were an amazing combination of 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. It
was a great season for the athletes and spectators.
Winter Sports is off to a great start for both the Girls’ and Boys’ Soccer and Basketball. Mr. Kilroy says that
there are some great returning players on the girls’ soccer team and he expects to have a good time during the
season. For the girls’ basketball team, Ms. Singh is very optimistic about the team. She says that there are many
skilled and all around good people on the team this year. She expects to be successful on the court this season as
the players give their best efforts. In addition to soccer and basketball this winter, Adams has brought back
cheerleading, coached by Mrs. Rosadini. She says the cheerleading season is going very well. The cheerleaders are
very dedicated and spirited and want to cheer at more events!
Let’s cheer on and support all of our Eagle athletes as they continue their winter season ending February 9th.

Dear Adam
Dear Adam,
I have been hanging out with a boy lately and everyone says I like him, but I don’t. I want to keep being friends with
him, but people keep teasing me. Help!
Sincerely,
Confused
Dear Confused,
I have been in the same shoes as you before and I agree, it is frustrating and annoying at times. Just be sure you
are honest and upfront about your relationship with him and your friends. You can even have him talk to your
friends about it. If they continue saying it, try to ignore them because it should go away after awhile. As long as
you guys know where you two stand then it should not matter what other people say.
Dear Adam,
How are you supposed to react, and what do you do when someone who is kind of your friend always comments
on what you are wearing and your face, but not in a good way?
Sincerely,
Self Conscious
Dear Self Conscious,
First off, I’m sorry you feel this way. You should tell them how you feel about the comments they are making. They
may think you are okay with it, though you are not. If you tell them it bothers you and would like for them to stop,
the situation will most likely change. If it still continues you may decide to take a break from being around this
person for a while.
Dear Adam,
My two closest friends don’t get along with each other, what should I do?
Sincerely,
Stuck in the Middle
Dear Stuck in the Middle,
First off, I think you are a wonderful friend for trying to help your friends out! Try to think first why they are not
getting along and see why it is affecting them. Think about what might have happened in the past that caused
this trouble. One thing you can do is to talk to them privately and see why they act this way toward each other.
Don’t blame one person more than the other and make sure you don’t side with one person. Hope this helps!

INTERVIEW WITH MRS. VEAL
1. What are the new red latches on all of the doors around campus?
These are called the 123 Lock-down Latch. They help with lockdowns by allowing
teachers to quickly lock their doors without a key. All schools are required to have
a safety plan in place, so these ended up being a useful tool for us.
2. How do they benefit us?
The latch eliminates steps in “locking down” the room. They are faster and more
reliable when keeping the students safe in an emergency. We have to be
prepared and the latches are a great tool in keeping us protected.
3. Who installed them and where did they come from?
Our superintendent, Dr. Steven Keller visited several different schools out the area
and saw that they had the red latches on their doors. He thought it was a good idea to have them in our
school district. The company that makes these latches is founded by president and owner Cory Webster.
4. Are these locks just at Adams Middle School or are they used in the entire school district?
The latch is intended to be used throughout the entire district. Initially they are being used at Parras, Adams
and Redondo Union High School. Eventually, the whole district will be secure with them.
5. In your opinion, do you think these are beneficial?
Yes, they are very beneficial. I like how the latches help the staff move quickly in assembling our safety plan.
