Windera State School– the hub of the community with everybody working together.
Hi all,
The strangest term of my teaching career is nearly over. Students who have been able to, attend
class regularly since their learning at home seem to have no detrimental affects to their learning.
The most important part of learning for any child is consistency. If your child is away from school it
is important to educate them with reading, writing and maths in the real world. If you continually
talk to your child about what you are doing, what you want them to do and help them be successful
with their home tasks, you are helping their school learning. If you talk to your child and help them,
listening to teachers and accepting help with work should seem natural for your child. Please keep
educating over the holidays by making nearly every experience with your child a learning experi-
ence.
School Photos– I took school photos on Wednesday, June 17. All students took home individual
photos. There were also class photos of students and students and staff. If you would like copies to
print out or have printed, please send a USB to school with your child and we can return it with the
photos included. Parents will have to organise their own photo quality printing.
Student lunches- I have noticed an increase of processed and packaged food in student lunchbox-
es. I understand that there are times when parents are busy and not able to provide the usual
lunch for students. However, a regular lunch for students should include some fresh ingredients to
make up their daily requirements. Children’s daily dietary requirements are 1 1/2 serves of fruit, 4
1/2 serves of vegetables, 4 serves of grains, 1 1/2 serves of meat or poultry and 2 serves of dairy.
Research has shown that students are able to learn better when they're well nourished, and eating
healthy meals has been linked to higher grades, better memory and alertness, and faster infor-
mation processing. Please help your child’s learning by ensuring they have adequate nutrition.
Cheryl Harvey.

Name student belongings (reminder)– Not all coats and hats are named. Please check your child’s belongings and
if not named, either write your child’s last name or first name so when their gear is left lying around the school we know who
to return it to.
Report Cards– Report cards will be officially issued to students on Friday. Parents have been given the opportunity to see
teachers after school on Tuesday and Thursday this week. Remember, parents voted on whether report cards would have
comments. A majority of parents voted in favour of no comments. This reporting style will remain for this year and next. If,
after receiving your child’s report card, you feel you would like to see a teacher, contact the school after the holidays for an
after school parent interview time.
Final week of school– This week has been a special week for students. On Tuesday students from Cloyna visited and
all students participated in athletics rotations. On Wednesday students completed the practical part of their technology as-
sessment. After explaining in their written assessment how technology has altered food preparation, students made some
lunch for themselves. Students also built robots as part of a Design Unit and then students had their own Windera Athletics
Carnival. All students ran in races with students of similar ability. All students received ribbons for their efforts in races, relays
and long jump. Friday was tuckshop day, special end of term library day and reward prize day.
Happy Holidays! The end of Term has come up so quickly. It’s holiday time again,
but hopefully we can enjoy a bit more normal life than last hols. Here’s one of my favourite recipes that
you may like to cook over the break. They are great for picnics or putting into lunchboxes when school
starts again. They are so simple to make, can be made ahead, frozen and then added to lunchboxes
when they are needed. Baking your own, can save a lot of money. Give them a try and see how good
they taste. Have a great holiday break and see you in Term 3.
