However, pivot bestdescribes what the whole school did this week. The way that the boys and their teachers pivoted to a new form of homeroom-based me table was simply wonderful to watch. Everyone seemed to magically know what they had to do, where to go and they worked together like an orchestra to make it happen. The boys have done this with maturity and a great sense of shared responsibility. Prefectsgate duty It has been great to see the Year 12 Prefects greet the boys every morning when they arrive with a warm welcome and a squirt of hand saniser. The prefects organised this themselves completely independent of us. It is a fantasc example of their subtle and quiet leadership across the school. Safe pick up and drop off around the school A number of parents are choosing to drop their sons at school by car rather than using public transport. Even though my Year 7 son is travelling to school by train, I totally understand and support this decision. With the Primary School next door, traffic around the site at 3pm has become diabolical, especially on Murrell St which leads to Ashfield Staon. We ancipated this when we completed our risk assessment before the boys returned to school full me and this is one of the (many) reasons that the back gate, which leads straight into this traffic, will remain closed unl the situaon changes. The police have been patrolling the Murrell St area and issuing fines to parents. Ive included the traffic signs and penales for your informaon later in Ashtag. We will connue staggering the boysexit mes to reduce numbers and help parents out. We are also connuing to do slurpee dutyevery aſternoon as this also helps with parents who are doing the aſternoon pick up there. If you are picking your son up by car, it will be much safer if you avoid the area around Murrell St and the Staon. It will be far beer to drop him in one of the back streets on the other side of Liverpool Road and have him walk the remaining 50 metres or so to school. In line with NSW Government guidelines, parents are not able to enter the school site to pick up their sons.

Return to school I really wanted to avoid using the word “pivot” as it is arguably the most over-used word in the country at the moment. However, “pivot best” describes what the whole school did this week. The way that the boys and their teachers pivoted to a new form of homeroom-based time table was simply wonderful to watch. Everyone seemed to magically know what they had to do, where to go and they worked together like an orchestra to make it happen. The boys have done this with maturity and a great sense of shared responsibility. Prefects’ gate duty It has been great to see the Year 12 Prefects greet the boys every morning when they arrive with a warm welcome and a squirt of hand sanitiser. The prefects organised this themselves completely independent of us. It is a fantastic example of their subtle and quiet leadership across the school. Safe pick up and drop off around the school A number of parents are choosing to drop their sons at school by car rather than using public transport. Even though my Year 7 son is travelling to school by train, I totally understand and support this decision. With the Primary School next door, traffic around the site at 3pm has become diabolical, especially on Murrell St which leads to Ashfield Station. We anticipated this when we completed our risk assessment before the boys returned to school full time and this is one of the (many) reasons that the back gate, which leads straight into this traffic, will remain closed until the situation changes. The police have been patrolling the Murrell St area and issuing fines to parents. I’ve included the traffic signs and penalties for your information later in Ashtag. We will continue staggering the boys’ exit times to reduce numbers and help parents out. We are also continuing to do “slurpee duty” every afternoon as this also helps with parents who are doing the afternoon pick up there. If you are picking your son up by car, it will be much safer if you avoid the area around Murrell St and the Station. It will be far better to drop him in one of the back streets on the other side of Liverpool Road and have him walk the remaining 50 metres or so to school. In line with NSW Government guidelines, parents are not able to enter the school site to pick up their sons.

SCIENCE IS BACK

Science is back and aren’t we glad! Many classes are engaging in consolidation lessons to fortify their learning from the last 5 weeks before moving on to a new topic. From atoms to molecules, from electricity to waves, from forces to motion. Students across the years are enjoying their first week back and so are the teachers! More practical activities are being organised for the coming weeks and we are all looking forward to them!
