EnR REWG Aim

The aim of the Working Group is to contribute to the implementation of R.E. strategies in the European Union and in the Member States by providing a leading forum for communication and co-operation.

Founded in 1998

Principles

provide added value to national activities, avoiding areas covered by other international networks.

provide the combined expertise and capabilities of EnR members to the European Commission and other institutions

REWG Principles (continued)

primarily concentrate on generic renewable energy issues (i.e. cross-technology, cross-sectoral issues) of widespread interest.

the REWG will not act as a lobby group. It should not try to influence policy, but should feel able to provide technical advice on different policy options, based on the experience of member countries.

Objectives (1)

act as the working group of EnR in the field of renewable energy, focusing on cross-technology issues.

act in support of the Member States and the European Commission, facilitating communication and the exchange of information.

act as a focus for strengthening co-operation between Member States

help Member State authorities and the Commission identify common barriers to the uptake of renewable energy and assist them to find solutions to these.

identify best practice in the deployment of renewable energy and seek its wider dissemination.

Joint Projects

REACT Ener Iure Mure

Assessment Benefits: Up to date information on

implementation, progress, hurdles in all renewable energy areas.

Success: the React project to realise recommendations

Problems: – .Participants have very limited resources, and are limited to a

maximum of a few meetings a year of 1 to 2 days. So real projects only start when funding for a project is available and the REWG was able to achieve this with the REACT project

– .It is very difficult to get new member on board and especially: Enova from Norway, ENEA from Italy and DEA from Denmark and from the new members states.

– They are most welcome to participate.

Future 1 - 2 year

- continue with the REWG in the same way:- realise a new proposal in the EIE call:

Renewable Heat and Energy Transition- Support the Commission in the development

of the Biomass Action Plan- Focus on the Renewable Heat directive for

Europe in 2006 Focus on the evaluation of the Renewable

Electricity directive in 2005 and 2006

Future Long Term

Work in closer contact with the national Ministries. Situations differ from country to country, but often the agencies support the Ministries in monitoring and policy development, so the EnR REWG could work in more direct contact with the Ministries and have them also involved in the Meetings and workshops
