Eucharistic Adoration Ministry of Sault Ste. Marie
Adoration Chapel Located at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church
The Roman Catholic community of the City of Sault Ste. Marie is privileged to have an Adoration Chapel where Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament is present at all times.
This Chapel is located in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church at 114 MacDonald Avenue. We are running into difficulties where a lot of the Adorers are getting to an age where they are
unable to attend the Chapel due to sickness or lack of transportation.
The Chapel is open from 6:00 a.m. until Midnight.
Anyone can drop in for a visit during that time; however, we do need adorers committed to a weekly visit for an hour.
We urgently require an Adorer for the hours of:
Wednesday: 5pm-6pm; Friday: 9pm-10pm
Sunday: 6pm-7pm & 8pm –9pm Please call one of the following coordinators of the Chapel if you would like to come to the Chapel to
experience the peace and tranquility of spending one hour weekly with Jesus:
Susanne Quinn-Perron 450-7732; Angela Rasaiah 949-2208; and Raffaela Medaglia 206-3968.

Remembering the Dead
The fast-approaching month of November is traditionally associated in the Catholic Church with remembrance of the dead. Bringing to mind deceased family and friends can be very painful, especially if the bereavement is relatively recent. In liturgical celebrations, however, remembrance is not just about looking back to the past but also looking ahead to the future in trust and hope. Just as our loved one shared in Christ’s death in baptism, we believe that he or she will share in Christ’s resurrec-tion and enjoy eternal life in God’s presence. At a time when morale in the Church may be at a low for a number of reasons, the feast of All Saints on 1st November serves to remind us that, although we are a Church of sinners, we are also a Church of saints and rejoice “in the glory bestowed upon those exalted members of the Church through whom God gives us, in our frailty, both strength and good example.” (Preface of All Saints) The tradition of recalling and interceding for the dead is a long-established practice in the Church. In earlier centuries, large tablets or “diptychs” were inscribed with the names of the dead who were to be remembered at the Mass, and the deacon would read out the names during the liturgy. There is something poignant about writing down the names of our deceased loved ones and asking the community to remember them in prayer, and parishioners are often given the opportunity to do this during November. Every celebration of Mass includes prayers for the dead. The feast of the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed, or All Souls’ Day, gives special focus to the belief that we remain in communion with those who have gone before us “marked with the sign of faith”. “We believe in the communion of all the faithful of Christ, those who are pilgrims on earth, the dead who are being purified, and the blessed in heaven, all together forming one Church; and we believe that in this communion, the merciful love of God and his saints is
always attentive to our prayers.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church #962)
We are inviting parishioners to bring in a picture of loved ones to place on our “Remembrance Table” at the entrance of the Church (the picture must be
no larger than 3” X 5”). There will be the Book of Life on a stand near the display. We have listed all those buried from our parish in the book. We invite you to enter the name of your loved ones, who have died this year outside of our parish.
CHILDREN’S LITURGY of the WORD is held each Sunday at the 11:00 a.m. Mass
for ages 5 to 12. Fr. Paul calls forth the children during the opening of Mass.
Catholics Celebrate Across Canada
Solidarity Quilt – A Celebraon The public is invited to view the
Development and Peace pilgrimage quilt pieces which have traveled from diocese to diocese
across Canada from Victoria to Sault Ste. Marie at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church from Nov., 3 - Nov., 5th.
The Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (D&P) will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary in 2017. To commemorate 50 years of solidarity work with countries of the Global South, DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE has launched the stitching of a ‘Solidarity Quilt’ that is travel-ling the country from West to East (British Columbia to Ontario) and from East to West (Newfoundland to Quebec). The nation-wide pilgrimage was launched on Ash Wednesday, February 10, 2016 with the first squares of the quilt stitched in St. John’s, Newfoundland and in Victoria, British Columbia. Since then each Canadian diocese has been invited to add a square to the quilt as it passes through.
All are invited to attend a special Pilgrimage Mass which will be celebrated by Bishop Marcel Damphousse, on
Sunday November 6 at 11:00 AM at Ste. Anne de Pins Church in Sudbury,
when the two quilt pieces from the Anglophone and Francophone D&P Diocesan Councils of the Diocese of Sault Ste. Marie will be added to the growing quilt. When the patches complete their pilgrimage just before Easter of 2017, they will be sewn together to create a huge quilt; a work of human hands that will represent the solidarity that has been lived by Canadians and people of the Global South throughout the 50 year history of DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE.
