From Father Jim “The kingdom of heaven may be likened to a king who gave wedding feast for his son He dispatched his servants to summon the invited guests to the feast saying ‘Tell those invited ‘Behold, I have prepared my banquet…and everything is ready, come to the feast’…’Go out, therefore, into the main roads and invite to the feast whomever you find… Many are invited, but few are chosen.” A recent popular book was entitled ‘What Is Heaven Like?’ It was a compelling story. Years ago, Matthew used the parables of Jesus to tell us what the kingdom is like. Using very descriptive examples we learned about a treasure, a pearl, a net, a seed, and on several occasions a banquet, a fine wedding reception, a fiesta or party. We have been invited through our baptism to join a great banquet. We have responded as we try to live a Christian life of holiness and service. But the parable adds another dimension. We have a role as guest, but also are servants. We who have accepted the invitation and participate in the banquet, are also the servants, being sent to the main roads to bring others to His table of plenty. Our task is to have others encounter Jesus, invite them and accompany them to the banquet. We need to show them they already have their ticket and a place at His table. Mark your calendars! The Feast of All Saints is November 1st, and is a Holy Day of Obligation. Our Mass schedule for the feast day will be: Tuesday, October 31st: 7:00pm at St. Jude Wednesday, November 1st: 8:30am, 10:00am, 12:15pm, and 6:30pm at Immaculate Conception Thursday, November 2 nd : 7:00pm at IC ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~ Our next Community Kitchen will be held on Friday, October 27th at the Elkton Presbyterian Church. Back by popular demand is our second fried chicken luncheon, which was well received last year by our guests. We need donations of large size cans of green beans, ready-to-serve rolls, and any kind of desserts. These can be delivered to the Parish Center or the Presbyterian Church on the day of the luncheon. We also need volunteers to help in the kitchen and to serve the food from 11:00-1:30. If you can help in any capacity, please call Joyce Speakman at 610-597-3135, or Kathy Chamberlin at 410-398-7299. We would love to have you! Thank you so much for your continued generosity. Why music ministry? "I come from a musical family. Music was part of life and part of worship. I never thought twice about it. When I converted to Catholic and no longer had family to sit with at church, joining the musicians meant I was still part of a tribe. Over the years it became a source of great joy to me to make music in church and to encourage others to do so. I feel most alive and most in touch with God when I am worshipping through song. No matter how hard or sorrowful life is, the joy of music never fails me. I cannot keep from singing." - Carol S. New this Year!! “The Giving Tree!" In substitution of the "Angel Tree," our purpose and objective will be to stock and fill the pantry shelves for this essential ministry, our Outreach Program. “The Giving Tree” will be set up in both churches the weekend of November 11th and 12th. It will be decorated with ornaments representing the items we need to serve the hungry and needy in our community during the long cold winter months. We will ask you to sign a commitment letter and return your items back to the church on Sunday, December 3rd. Thank you

Readings for this week: 29 th Sunday in Ordinary Time

First Reading: Isaiah 45:1, 4-6Cyrus, King of Persia and friend to the Jewish people, becomes the Lord’s anointed one, and through God’s intervention, returns the Jews to their own country.Second Reading: 1 Thessalonians 1:1-5bPaul rejoices that the Thessalonians, newly converted to Christianity, are displaying remarkable constancy in their new-found faith.Gospel: Matthew 22:15-21Seeking to entrap Jesus, the hostile and hypocritical Pharisees ask him this dangerous question, “Is it lawful to pay tax to the emperor or not?” Realizing their treacherous motives, Jesus asks for a Roman coin, and pointing to the inscription of Caesar’s, he answers, “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, but give to God what is God’s.”~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Adoration for Vocations: On the 1st Sunday of each month, exposition of the Blessed Sacrament occurs from 1pm-3pm in IC Chapel. Join us to pray for vocations to priesthood and religious life. The next opportunity is Sunday Nov 5th. Contact Dermott Mullan at 410-398-3368~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Does your child need to be Baptized? Baptism Classes are January 8, March 19, May 14, and August 20 7:00-8:30pm in the Parish Center. It’s never too early to prepare for the Baptism of your child. Parents are required and Godparents are encouraged to attend. Contact us to register and arrange the Baptism date at 410-398-1100.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Less than one month left until the start of RCIA!!Are you unbaptized and desire to be baptized? Are you a baptized Christian interested in becoming a Catholic? Are you a baptized Catholic who never received Eucharist and Confirmation? If you said yes to any of these questions then RCIA is for you!!A new RCIA program will be starting September 21st. RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is the process by which baptized Christians and those who are unbaptized become members of the Catholic Church. It is also the process by which baptized Catholics who never received the sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation receive those sacraments. Do you feel being called to have a deeper relationship with God? If so, please call the Parish Office at 410-398-1100 or email [email protected] to learn more about RCIA and to schedule an interview with Pat Kosman to register for RCIA. The RCIA process is

a wonderful way to have a greater understanding of the Catholic faith and become closer to God in the process.Sponsors are also needed to walk with those who are learning about the Catholic faith through the RCIA process. Do you love your Catholic faith? Do you want to share it with others? Please consider being a sponsor for RCIA! Call the Parish Office at 410-398-1100 to sign up. It requires a small amount of effort yet yields large rewards.
