House Faction Tokens

OUR PRIORITIES: High Quality Teaching | Success for ALL Students | Effective Leadership | Health and Wellbeing

Year 11’s took part in a state wide webinar “Fake news, real harms” on Tuesday for Safer Internet Day. We learnt about “Fake News” and what sorts of questions to ask in order to work out what you can believe on the internet and not be tricked into a scam. We found out that false news stories often have catchy headlines with exclamation points, that you should check if the story is written by a source that you trust and that you should look for other reports on the topic in question, (If no other news source is reporting the same story, it may indicate that the story is false). We also need to think about who is sponsoring the news report and getting something from it. The final question to ask is whether the story is supposed to be a joke and therefore doesn’t need to be taken seriously.

The most important message of the webinar? Think critically about the stories you read and only share news that you know to be credible (or deliberately funny!).

Election Time for Students

The race has begun to see what house faction will win the Good Standing token competition this term. Year 10a have begun the competition, keep up the great work!

It’s that time of year once again! Elections for School Captains and House Captains from either year 11 and/or 12 will be conducted next week. Our Student Councillors from year 7-10 will also be announced shortly. We are looking forward to announcing our new student leadership team for 2021.

Year 7a have had an amazing start to high school this week. We met up with our friends from primary school and made new friends too, learning where everything is in our new school has been a focus this week (where our classes are including Options and Bush Rangers) and we had to learn all the teacher’s names. We shared information about ourselves including our favourite colour, food and of course pets. We are looking forward to using our iPads and learning lots of new things. Mrs Evans took our photos during Maths this week. We were working on our number skills. Some students were playing ‘Snap’ to 10 (we had to add and subtract our cards to make 10 before saying SNAP!) and other students were playing ‘Shake and Spill’ to 10. Ms Baldwin, Ms Vernal, Ms Brookes and Ms Brockman are excited for this year and so are we!

Year 7a

Year 7b students are very excited to be in High School. This week they got to know each other and all got along very well. They visited the mainstream library to borrow a book so they can do their silent reading for 10 minutes after their break times. They also enjoyed meeting the Principal - Mrs Keen in her office before visiting the Life Skills room where students were introduced to the Cooking Program. They familiarised themselves with the equipment, while learning how to cook in a safe and hygienic manner. After completing all their work, students were happy to engage in some games of UNO, Chess and Connect 4 as a reward. Students together with their parents and the staff in room 4 are looking forward to an enjoyable and exciting year ahead.
