PRODUCT Dubai Duty Free’s wide range of products satisfies the needs of even the most demanding of travellers. With almost 26 million sales transactions recorded by the operation in 2013, which average at 71,150 sales transactions per day, the statistics continue to make for interesting reading. Category wise, Perfume retained its position as the top selling category with sales reaching US$289 million in 2013, an increase of 16% over the previous year. The Perfumes category now contributes 16% towards total sales at Dubai Duty Free. The second highest category was Liquor followed by Gold with US$168 million in sales, representing an increase of 5% year-on-year. Other steep increases were seen in Watches which rose by 16% to US$126 million, Cosmetics rose by 20% to US$122 million and Delicatessen sales rose by 13% to US$82 million. Gifts from Dubai and Handbags & Leather Goods categories have seen an increase of 22% and 46% increase in 2013 respectively. Sales in DDF Departures rose by 11% while Arrivals sales have shown a 13% increase over last year. Terminal 2, which completed its renovation in December, recorded a 22% increase in sales. Sales increases were seen across all Dubai Duty Free retail areas in all three Terminals: Terminal 1 recorded a 7% increase on overall sales, Terminal 2 sales increased by 15% and Terminal 3, which currently accounts for 60% of total sales, increased by 11%. Sales in the Arrivals retail areas increased overall by 13%. On the operation’s 30th Anniversary on December 20th a special promotional offer of up to 30% discount fuelled sales of US$30.65 million in the 24-hour period.
