DSSR is a forward thinking, award winning firm of Consulting Engineers specialising in all aspects of Building Services and Sustainability.

We believe we are positioned perfectly within the industry to provide our clients a personalised service on all types and sizes of project from Boiler Replacements & Condition Surveys to multi-million pound developments. Small enough to care...Large enough to deliver.

Formed in 1945 our services cover all aspects of the design, specification and site inspection of Mechanical, Electrical, Public Health and Lift Engineering Services for all types of buildings.

DSSR has over 130 people across offices in London, Manchester, Glasgow and Harrogate. EEIG European partnership offices have also been established in Paris and Germany.

Mechanical

DSSR’s Mechanical team endeavour to design simple effective solutions that create environments that are comfortable for users as well as being economic for building operators to run. Our Engineers work closely with our Sustainability team to design passive and energy efficient solutions that are easy to maintain, adapt and operate.

Public Health

Our Public Health Engineers provide a diverse yet essential service. From the design hot and cold water distribution systems, drainage systems and incoming utilities to supplying pure water and medical gases for healthcare applications.

Electrical

DSSR have considerable experience in the full design, specification and contract administration of all Electrical systems including both Low and High Voltage installations. DSSR also have expertise in lighting design offering schemes that are aesthetically pleasing and inspirational whilst maintaining the functional integrity of the design.

DSSR maintains in house expertise in Vertical Transportation systems to allow us to offer clients guidance in the assessment of vertical transportation needs through detailed traffic analysis. Our capability extends in the specification, integration and inspection of vertical transport systems as well as feasibility and condition surveys.

Sustainability

Sustainability in design is about developing an understanding of the negative impacts building construction can have on our environment and embracing all the ways in which we, as engineers and designers, can change things for the better.

Through consultation with architects and clients we have developed our integrated approach to sustainability; a strategy that involves reducing demand, increasing efficiency, minimising waste and only then utilising the most appropriate renewable technologies. Sustainability Impact Assessments, based on accurate energy modelling studies, allow evaluation of the most suitable and economically feasible design solutions to meet our clients’ needs.

DSSR brings Building Physics to the heart of the design process allowing us to accurately predict energy usage, providing a vital edge to design team integration and Building Regulations compliance.

Our team are highly experienced in the latest thermal modelling software, which allows us to develop accurate energy models of buildings during the design process. This has proven to be a highly-effective design tool in producing more energy-efficient buildings that exceed expectations for reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

At DSSR we offer consultancy advice on how you can maximize the sustainability of your project and provide both formal assessment and advice on designing to achieve the optimum BREEAM and Code for Sustainable Homes ratings.

DSSR has been providing Building Services Consultancy to a number of airports in the UK and overseas to cope with the continual increase in demand.

DSSR’s history in airport projects started in Glasgow in 1965 followed by numerous other airport projects for airlines and airport operators in the UK and overseas, culminating in our largest project to date – the new Terminal 5 at Heathrow Airport.

The scale of DSSR’s airport work has increased dramatically over recent years. We have undertaken the design consultancy for the remodelling and extension of existing facilities, but the new build side of development has accelerated due to the increasing competition for business from airports that are being privatised.

As well as operating independently, DSSR works in joint venture with other airport consultants & contractors. Our expertise ranges from master planning of airport infrastructure services to general building services design and input to specialist airport services including fixed ground power, pre-conditioned air and apron lighting. Whatever the project, DSSR can help.

DSSR have delivered building services design for all types of commercial office accommodation from high rise new build to listed building refurbishments.

DSSR were part of the design team for the DS7 Tower (50 storeys) and the Citibank Tower (42 Storeys) at Canary Wharf and have been providing design and construction support services for fitout and refurbishment projects in both Towers including highly serviced Trading Floors. DSSR were also part of the design team for the Emirates Towers (two 50 storey towers comprising 100,000m2 commercial offices and a 400 bed hotel) in Dubai.

In addition to highly serviced air conditioned office space DSSR have worked closely with Architects and Clients to produce naturally ventilated buildings with high levels of natural daylight for notable clients for whom the sustainable credentials of their buildings are vital to the way they run their businesses.

Education

DSSR have been particularly successful within the education market winning a number of places on University Frameworks as well as delivering further education buildings and also several schools through the BSF program.

We have completed landmark projects at the University of Reading, Queen Mary University of London and Brunel University all of which have enhanced the teaching environment adding favourably to student experience. These projects range from providing teaching accommodation through lecture theatres, meeting and seminar rooms to academics offices, research labs and film theatre and television studios. At the University of Reading we have also successfully delivered a major catering facilities upgrade including the central processing unit.

Central to our success in this market is our partnering ethos to understand the needs of both academic staff and students to establish how that can be integrated with building services systems to create an ideal learning or research environment.
