INTRODUCTION

Plastering is the method covering various components of a building with a

plastic material to form a durable surface

Plastering is done to achieve the following objects:

To protect the external surfaces against penetration of rain water and other

atmospheric agencies.

To give smooth surface in which dust and dirt cannot lodge.

To provide an even, smooth, regular, clean and durable finished surface and thus

to improve appearance.

To cover up the use of inferior quality materials and joints formed in the

masonry work.

To provide satisfactory base for white washing, color washing etc.

The object of internal plastering is to protect the surface against dust and

vermin nuisance.

Dry Mix Mortar Technology and Products Expo is a three day event that will be held

in Shanghai in China.

In 2003, the Company established its Dry Mix Mortar Plant, the first of its kind in

India, manufacturing plastering materials and tile fixing compounds required for the

Housing industry.

The Plant, established in collaboration with M-tech, Germany, is located in the

Kaanchipuram District of Tamil Nadu near Sriperumbdur.

IMPLEMENTATION PURPOSES

IF WE Implement D.M.M. METHOD, WE CAN

ACHIVE plastering with

Assured Good Quality

Stipulated Time(Schedule)

Economy in Construction

Page 8: Dry Mix Mortar

HOW ABOUT QUALITY?????

The management supplies the Materials to the contractor.

The materials which are mixed (Dry mix)is of known Proportions.

That proportions is thoroughly mixed in front of the Engineers or

Supervisors.

After mixing, the dry mortar is put to gunny bags, that bags is known as

DMM bags.

For contractors side workers they have only mixed Water to the given

DMM bags.

There is no (minimum) Wastage of the materials.

As the Quantity of RMM bag supplied to the contractors is noted.

Hence after supply of each bag the Area of Plastered surface is Noted.

After plastering the area should be Checked & Verified.

By all these factors the management knows the Quality of mixing &

supplying. After supplying of each DMM bag, they know how much area to

be plastered also. Hence Quality is achieved.

Page 9: Dry Mix Mortar

HOW ABOUT TIME (SCHEDULE)???????

The Dry mortar required for plastering is mixed in machine mixer.

Mixing of mortar by labour is replaced by mixer machine.

By continuous mixing of dry mortar in a day by mixer, the time will

be consumed for Contractor also.

As the mixing time is reduce for contractor they can plaster large

area with their stipulated time.

Hence the Bar Chart or Gant Chart of plastering work will also be

finished within the schedule.

After finishing the plastering (after curing) within the schedule the

painting work also started early. Hence Time (Schedule) is achieved.

Page 10: Dry Mix Mortar

HOW ABOUT ECONOMY???????

Supply the DMM bags to the contractor for plastering work.

The contractor side workers have only mix Water.

Hence mixing Time is reduced for the contractors they also achieve large Area in a day.

By this, the management can talked about the Revised rate for plastering with the Contractor.

By this we can reduce 0.5paisa to 1.0 rupee, after discussing with the contractor.

Before DMM method, Interior Plastering-Rs 16/ft, Exterior Plastering-Rs17/ft , Ceiling

Plastering- Rs 18/ft.

After introducing DMM method, Interior Plastering-Rs 15/ft, Exterior Plastering-Rs16/ft

,Ceiling Plastering- Rs 17/ft. Hence economy is achieved.

TESTS AND RESULTS

TESTS ON CEMENT:-

Fineness of cement:

Percentage residue for a given sample of cement is 5.3%

Specific gravity of cement:

Specific gravity of cement is 2.95

Normal consistency of cement:

The normal consistency of the given sample of cement is 33% of water by weight

of cement

Initial setting time of cement:

The initial setting time of given sample of cement is 37min

Storage time of cement:

The strength of cement is also depends on the storage time of cement

Page 12: Dry Mix Mortar

TESTS ON SAND:-

Sieve analysis of sand:

Fineness modulus of fine aggregate i.e, sand is found to be 4.67

Specific gravity of sand:

The specific gravity of sand is 3.18

TESTS ON CEMENT MORTAR:

COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH TEST:

The Compressive strength is the most important of all the properties. This

is carried out to determine compressive strength of cement mortar by preparing

standard cubes made of good Portland cement and standard sand mortar in the ratio

1:6. The size of the mould is 70.6mm x 70.6mm. After curing, cubes are tested in

compression testing machine.

For Freshly Prepared Mortar:

SL.N

1 3days 17.2N/mm2

2 7days 28 N/mm2

3 28days 56 N/mm2

Mixing the water after 2hours of mixing dry mortar:

1 3days 18.1 N/mm2

2 7days 28.1 N/mm2

3 28days 55.5 N/mm2

Mixing the water after 2days of mixing dry mortar:

SL.NO Days of curing Compressive strength of 1:6 ratio

1 3days 19.2 N/mm2

2 7days 28.5 N/mm2

3 28days 56.1 N/mm2

CONCLUSION

In the present construction system, the use of innovative methodology will be most

important to complete the construction activities as early as possible. As suggested

earlier the construction activities depends upon the Quality, Time Schedule &

Economy in construction.

The implemented technique may be more useful to high rise structures or

skyscrapers. The DMM technique is to be adopted for the multi-storeyed building,

apartment construction or any other high rise structures.

The introduced DMM technique is more reliable to the construction, as it depends

upon the Quality, Time Schedule & Economy of the construction.
