Adenomyosis: Quick Facts Adenomyosis is a condition in which the cells that line the

inside of the uterus (endometrium) are abnormally located in cells that make up the uterine wall (myometrium). This can result in an enlarged uterus.

Very painful periods Heavy bleeding

Symptoms:

Risk factors:

Childbearing, Previous uterine surgery

Pain during sex Abdominal pressure

Short menstrual cycles Early age of menarche

(age of first period)

Diagnosis: The only way to definitively diagnose adenomyosis is by having a

pathologist examine the uterus after a hysterectomy. Imaging studies like MRI and ultrasound can be used to suggest

adenomyosis, but are not completely accurate.

Adenomyosis TreatmentThe only cure for adenomyosis is a hysterectomy.

Adenomyosis is a disease of the uterus and does not affect the ovaries. It is important to choose an adenomyosis surgeon who can perform a hysterectomy while leaving the ovaries intact to prevent early menopause. For women who are not yet finished with child-bearing, the symptoms of adenomyosis can be temporarily managed through medication.

Adenomyosis Surgery: DualPortGYN Hysterectomy Minimally invasive GYN surgeons at The Center for Innovative GYN Care perform

DualPortGYN hysterectomy to treat adenomyosis with only 2 5mm cosmetically placed incisions. DualPortGYN is the safest, least invasive GYN surgery available worldwide and it is faster, more affordable, and more efficient than standard laparoscopy or robotic surgery.
