Downtown Construction Returns Thursday, May 1 Main Street from Country Club Drive to Centennial Way May 1 to September 30, 2014 The guideway is created by milling, demolishing and grading the center of the road. As construcƟon returns to downtown Mesa, crews will work from Country Club Drive heading east, with demoliƟon beginning Thursday, May 1, 2014. DemoliƟon consists of milling and grading to establish the guideway for the light rail. What will occur during construction? Removal of the median and excavaƟon in the center of the street to establish the guideway. InstallaƟon of underground uƟlity duct banks, overhead catenary system (OCS) pole foundaƟons, rail, and staƟon foundaƟons. When will construction occur? ConstrucƟon will primarily occur ve days a week, in 10hour shiŌs. Crews may work seven days a week and occasionally during nighƫme hours. Detours may be required depending upon the locaƟon of the work, trac impacts and trac control. As temperatures increase, concrete pours will be done in early morning hours (typically midnight to 3 a.m.). Work acƟviƟes and restricƟons may change due to weather or unforeseen circumstances. What can drivers expect in downtown? One lane of trac in each direcƟon. IntersecƟons will be constructed one at a Ɵme. Please look for intersecƟon specic noƟces. No two consecuƟve intersecƟons will have leŌ‐turn restricƟons at one Ɵme. Rail installaƟon will occur over three consecuƟve weekends at Country Club Drive. LeŌ turns will not be impacted. Rail installaƟon at Robson, Macdonald and Centennial will require 10 days per intersecƟon to complete. LeŌ turns will be restricted when crossing these intersecƟons. Rail installaƟon at Center Street will occur over one weekend; leŌ turns will be restricted. Onstreet parking may not be available. As construc on returns to downtown Mesa, crews will work from Country Club Drive heading east, with demoli on beginning Thursday, May 1, 2014.  What can pedestrians expect downtown?   Pedestrians must cross Main Street only at  

signalized traffic intersec ons where  designated. 

Mid‐block pedestrian crossings will be closed  un l guideway work is complete. 

 What can businesses and residents expect?   Access will be maintained; 48‐hour no ce will  

be provided if driveway access will be  impacted. 

Safe and clean work zones.  Regular updates from project staff.  Valley Metro and contractor staff are available  

to  assist as issues occur. 

  

Track work includes skeletonizing the track, shown at right and poured track slab, shown at le . 

How will downtown Mesa look on September 30, 2014?  Not all guideway work will be completed in  summer 2014. Sta on canopies,  artwork,  cket vending machines, overhead power poles and other guideway details will be finished in the months following September 30, 2014, as the tes ng and opera ons date nears.  Following September 30, 2014, barricades will separate the guideway from traffic.   Concrete track slab pours occur at night.
