A day with Dr Pascal Magne Anterior and posterior bonded restorations

Achieve superior, predictable, beautiful results with a biomimetic approach to restorative dentistryOverviewThrough the knowledge of dental morphology, function, biomechanics and adhesive dentistry, anterior bonded restorations have the potential of mimicking the natural dentition. Additive techniques are paramount to the diagnostic, preparation and designing of beautiful, functional and minimally-invasive restorations.

The symbiotic relation of enamel, dentin and the dentinoenamel complex can be approached by the synergistic use of direct composite resins, novel semi-indirect CAD/CAM polymers and indirect ceramic materials and the careful choice and application of proven dental adhesives. Chairside CAD/CAM systems have opened new restorative approaches, including the use of high performance biomaterials manufactured under controlled and standardised industrial conditions.

Learning objectives

• Understand a new biomimetic approach to restorative dentistry

• Explore the use of 'tooth-like' restorative materials, such as composite resins and porcelain

• Consider the use of a hard tissue bond, such as enamel and dentin bonding

• Discuss direct, semi-direct and indirect techniques in composite and ceramics, including CAD/CAM.

SpeakerPascal Magne Don and Sybil Harrington Foundation Professor of Aesthetic Dentistry, Division of Restorative Sciences, University of Southern California, Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry

A day with Professor Trevor Burke Bonding, composites and all ceramic crowns and bridges – what works where?

Translating research in dental materials into clinical practice OverviewThis event will explore the options for the restoration of teeth with an emphasis on the most minimally invasive way of achieving this; bonding and composite. There will be an in-depth look at the current status of dentine bonding agents and the many advances in the recent past, alongside methods of avoiding the stress that can result in post-operative sensitivity following composite placement.

Materials for the restoration of anterior teeth will be discussed, especially those used for the repair of worn dentition. The day explores the optimum methods for restoration of the 'humble' class V restoration, highlighting the management of sclerotic, shiny dentine surfaces.

Contemporary materials for crowns and bridges and the results of a practice-based clinical evaluation of Zirconia bridges will be presented, along with thoughts on how to avoid the problems of chipping and the current status of other ceramic materials.

Learning objectives

• Be in a position to assess the optimum methods of bonding resin-based restorative materials to teeth

• Reduce post-operative stress and sensitivity following posterior composite placement

• Treat worn teeth in a minimally invasive way• Understand the material which is likely to perform best in

a given clinical situation• Be aware of the potential performance of all ceramic

crowns and bridges.Speaker
