Set in the centre of the Costa del Sol, yet far enough away from all of the noise, five-star luxury hotel Finca Cortesín is situated at the beginning of the Andalusian village of Casares, up on the hills facing the Mediterranean Sea. e surroundings are rich in history and the hotel itself is less than an hour from Marbella, yet once at Finca you will never want to leave. Finca Cortesín is located in one of the quietest areas of Andalucía, creating a special connection with nature. e whitewashed buildings and Alhambra-like fountains make the place look like an ancient Andalusian country house, but, in fact, the resort was only built in 2009. Upon entering the hotel, after crossing the chic entrance with six-metre high ceilings, we were pleasantly surprised by the relaxed and peaceful atmosphere where time seemed to have stopped. e friendly and cheerful staff greeted us with one of the most gracious welcomes we have had, giving us a genuine taste of the typical Andalusian hospitality. A stunning mix of Andalusian and Moroccan furniture give the common areas an elegant touch, whilst maintaining the rural style of the Finca ‘country estate.’ e floor, made of stones from an old monastery in Portugal and the Moorish colonnaded patio give the lounge area a modest touch, making it seem more like a quaint country house than a luxury resort. e hotel consists of several villas and 67 suites. Each room is unique, but a common theme is the bathrooms with Travertine floor as well as a shower and bathtub offering views of either the surrounding hills or golf course from their private garden or terrace. We decided to indulge immediately in the Spanish cuisine having lunch at the Finca Cortesín Beach Club, which includes a restaurant and an infinity pool facing the sea. e menu is a selection of simple and fresh Spanish food, including tapas, seafood, and grilled meat. In less than five minutes the free shuttle drove us to the Bahía de Casares, where the beach club is located. e Balinese beds at the poolside are the perfect location to enjoy the sea breeze and have a drink, like the typical fresh tinto the verano, a mix of wine and lemonade. After an afternoon of total relaxation and enjoying the Mediterranean’s slow rhythms, we came back to the resort and had a cocktail at e Blue bar, a refined lounge facing the garden, surrounded by hundred-year old olive trees and cascading bougainvillea. e elegant blue wallpaper creates an intimate and warm atmosphere and is the perfect setting for afternoon tea. A sushi dinner, accompanied by the best Andalusian wines, with Marketing and Sales Director, Javier Rivadulla, at the Japanese Kabuki Raw restaurant was the perfect way to continue our magical Andalusian night. e hotel’s signature restaurant is managed by the Kabuki Group, who are world leaders in Japanese cuisine with Rates at Finca Cortesin start from €464 (approx. £343) per night in a Junior Suite on a bed and breakfast basis. Staged in a unique setting, Kabuki offers high-quality Japanese cuisine influenced by a Mediterranean touch. We could see the Kabuki team hard at work in the open kitchen while they were cooking our delicious selection of sushi made from fresh local fish. In Andalucía, the nights are longer and warmer, so after dinner we had the chance to listen to the live duet of guitar and voice performing on the patio. e following morning a rich buffet breakfast welcomed us at El Jardín de Lutz, a restaurant facing the garden that showcased the traditional Spanish ambience. An individual buffet consisting of a selection of yoghurts, pastries and healthy juices arrived at our table while we were mulling over the menu, which included crêpes, French toast and eggs Benedict. After indulging in a complete breakfast, we set off to the Nicklaus Golf Academy, considered the largest golf course in Spain with its 18 holes. Once we arrived, Director of Instruction Ricardo Jimenez Eliaeson, one of the most successful instructors within the Global System of Academies, turned us from amateurs into golfers in the most breathtaking setting. e coaching studio offers the latest technologies for beginners, and the golf course provides a rewarding experience to players of all levels. e resort also includes two tennis courts and two paddle tennis courts, giving you the perfect opportunity to keep fit. After a tour of the hotel, it was time to relax (again) and try the treatments at the superb, award- winning spa. I was pampered with a fabulous Indian head massage with coconut oil, which moisturised both my hair and skin. Treatments also include Traditional ai and Balinese massages. Guests can also benefit from the use of thermal baths and the heated indoor pool, saunas, and Turkish baths. e wellness programme continues with the gym and the natural snow cave, the first of its kind in Spain. For dinner we indulged again in the traditional Spanish cuisine of creative, German born, Executive Chef Lutz Bösing at El Jardín de Lutz. Here we experienced Lutz’s menu full with local ingredients of the freshest quality. e resort also offers Italian cuisine at Don Giovanni restaurant, just a two- minute walk from the reception. Our wellness programme continued the following day after a rich breakfast at El Jardín. Our personal yoga instructor, Michelle Francis, introduced us to the benefits of self-discipline, and the quiet lawn facing the sea made our session even more unforgettable. To conclude our weekend of luxury relaxation there was nothing better than enjoying the sound of cicadas and sunbathing poolside. Both pools are water treated with sea salt, which benefits the skin and are surrounded by fragrant gardens. Even when fully booked, at Finca you can always enjoy the feeling of endless and peaceful spaces. To enjoy Andalucía’s best and simplest ingredients—sun and slow rhythms—in the most unique setting, Finca is the best choice during any time of the year.
