- Tim Shaw, Minister of Students
Children & Youth Ministries
Hello to my favorite students! I truly enjoyed watching you as you led in different areas of the morning worship service this past Sunday. You did an incredible job, and I heard several compliments from the adult congregation about how your spiritual growth is evident and how important you are to them. As a new year has begun, we have many events and service opportunities planned along with our regular Bible Study times together. The children’s programs are starting up again, too! I hope that 2014 is going well so far and that you are continually seeking the Lord for His direction and will for your life. The Word of God is our source for knowing the will of God for our lives. God will never ask or call us to something that contradicts His Word. This is a vital truth to the Christian walk, so I encourage you to continue to study. If you don’t know how to study the Bible, please ask your parents or come and talk to me so that I can get you a devotional. Devotionals are great ways to start your journey of personal study and this is a good time to start. Let me encourage you that God’s Word will never be exhausted and you will never know it all (I certainly don’t)…God’s riches are truly immeasurable. Start… continue…do whatever… to grow your relationship with the Lord as long as it is not contrary to His Word. Love the Lord and be sure to thank Him for His Grace and Mercy. From Ken…
Happy New Year! What an incredible season of Christmas celebrations we have experi-
enced as 2013 came to an end. What an incredible Lord and Savior in Jesus Christ we
have that never ends! I thank the Lord daily for you my church family. You are not just
my “employer”; you are my friends and family. This is not just my “church”; this is my
home where the Lord blesses in so many way! I personally enter into this new year with a
focused apologetically determination to preach the word.
Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia on the internet describes Apologetics this way: (from
Greek ἀπολογία, "speaking in defense") is the discipline of defending a position (often
religious) through the systematic use of information. It’s actually a legal term. On the one
hand you have the prosecution delivering their accusations. On the other hand you have
the defense delivering their rebuttal.
For too long we have been hearing from “the prosecution” (the secular media, atheists,
worldly minded people) that Christianity is wrong, that it’s offensive and that we
(Christians) shouldn’t be allowed to speak or pray or be heard in the market place. And
“the prosecution” seems to be controlling the agenda and the airways.
I believe it’s time for the body of Christ to stand up and stand down “the prosecution” with
a genuine and clear defense of our faith and then to allow the truth to win out. Therefore,
I resolve in 2014 to “Preach the Word” as Paul tells us 2 Timothy 4:2. Here is how I will
begin by “rebuttal” in 2014.
First, we will continue our chapter by chapter “Outline Study of the Bible” on Wednesday
evenings at 6:15 p.m. You can get copies of previous chapters and materials covered to
date. On January 15th we will be on study #21 and we will be in Genesis 29.
Second, we will continue our “Why I Believe” video series this Sunday, January 12th at
5:30 pm in the sanctuary. This is the Chip Ingram series that addresses our “honest
doubts” and asks pivotal questions like: “What happens when we die?” or “Can miracles
be explained?” or “Is there really a God?”
Third, I will begin a preaching series from The Book of Romans beginning this Sunday. In
this series we will deal with the systematic study and understanding of our faith. We will
hear from this theological letter clearly what and why we believe that Jesus Christ is both
Lord and Savior. We do not need to be afraid of proclaiming or faith and beliefs in a
“secular humanistic” society. We no longer need to stand by as we watch everything we
believe be “prosecuted” without a defense or “rebuttal”. We can stand with Paul and say
“we are not ashamed”.
See you in church! I can’t wait to see what the Lord is going to do next!
