Donald Clarke Kuhn was born on January 27,1928 in Port Arthur, Texas. His father, Baxter Kuhn, was 31, and his mother, Theresa, was 23. He was raised in the Rosedale area of North Beaumont with his sister, Betty Jean. In the late 30’s, Don and his sister spent time in Gina, LA, with extended family while their father was convalescing in the VA hospital. When released from the hospital, his father acquired 180 acres of farmland in Thomastown, LA where they farmed cotton, soybeans and corn. His youngest

sister, Doris, was born there. Don honorably served as a corporal in the United States Marine Corps from during WW II. He later attended Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA and eventually settled in Beaumont where he began his lengthy career in banking. Don was Regional Manager for Pacific Finance and was later named Vice President of the Consumer Loan Department at First Security National Bank until he retired in 1991. Don Kuhn married Helen Blasingame Poore, and they would go on to enjoy 62 years of marriage until Helen’s death in 2015. Together they raised 4 beautiful daughters, Patsy, Lesley, Disa, and Traci. Don was affectionately known as OPA to his 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. He was known by all for his gentle nature and whitty sense of humor. He had a keen sense for numbers and a deep love for the game of golf. His duty and devotion to family built a foundation on which his children, grand-children and great grandchildren can proudly impart to their own families for generations to come. Today we can joyfully celebrate Don Kuhn’s life knowing he is in the presence of Jesus Christ, our savior.
