Transcript of Dominican Order 800 Jubilee Guide

The Path of Saint DominicSent to preach the GospelThe purpose of this guide is to help travellers and pilgrims who want to visit places connected with the life of St. Dominic of Guzman and therefore to have a better understanding of the origins of the Order of Preachers. To cross, eight hundred years later, the same roads, towns and to see homes and churches that have marked Dominics itinerary, allows us to understand and to internalize the spirituality and the charisma he left to his Order. On his journey, the traveler will come across not only monuments but also nuns, brothers, religious people and laitieswhohavedecidedtounitetothepathofDominicanddedicatetheir lives to the mission of preaching. This is a story that remains alive because today, like yesterday, we are sent to preach the Gospel. The Path of Saint DominicCaleruegaToulouseBolognaRomeThe path of Saint DominicITINERARY IN SPAINTherststepofSaintDominicspath isfoundinCastile, intheheartof Spain, whereSaintDominicwasborn: Caleruega;theplacewhereheattend-edhisrstschool:GumieldeIzan;the universitywherehestudied:Palencia; thecitywherehebeganhispriestly ministry:BurgodeOsma.Thisisalsoa region where there are important mon-asteries associated with Saint Dominics life and his family, like the monastery of SilosorLaVid.Byvisitingtheseplaces, we discover elements that undoubtedly formed the vocation of the young Dom-inic:thewitnessofanexemplaryChris-tianfamily,theimportancegivento study, the centrality ofliturgy and con-templation,pastoralrenewalpromoted by the bishops of Osma.WellafterhavingfoundedtheOrder, SaintDominicreturnedtoCastile. For Christmasintheyear1218,hewentto Segoviawherehespentmanyhoursin prayerinacaveoutsidethecitywhere healsopreachedassiduouslyin lengua vulgar.Asthepeopledidnotreturnto thechurches, hebegantopreachinthe open air, along river Eresma.
