Although some people were ready to receive the disciples’ preaching, some were not. It is the same today. Some people come to church hungry and thirsty for the love of God and they are fed. The miracle of faith happens anew and they walk away changed and fired up. But others are unable to really be open to the revelation of God’s love for them. Why not? Peace is proclaimed to them just as the angels pro- claimed it to the shepherds at the beginning of Luke’s gospel. God’s kingdom-presence, His Spirit is availa- ble for them, but they walk away unchanged. Why? They have excuses: “This is boring.” “This isn’t the kind of music I want.” “God cannot love me because I am stuck in a complicated situation.” “I can’t change and I won’t.” In effect, these wounded brothers and sisters are closed to the Spirit, unable to accept the grace of a new beginning in God’s love. So we gather for them in great vulnerability, to open our hearts, to offer the newness of his mercy and the peace of the Risen Christ. Let’s try again to humbly embody that love and peace for one another. Question for the week: Who brought the good news of God’s nearness to you? To whom have you handed it on? Word for the week: Evangelization: the process of bringing the Spirit of Christ to others, by example and words that embody credible loving witness and care for others. Your Pastor, Fr.
