CAN YOU GUESS???• He is known father of

Gemeotry.• His Elements is one of the

most influential works in the history of Mathematics.

• It serves as the main textbook for teaching mathematics from the time of its publication until the late 19th or early 20th century.

ABOUT EUCLID• Euclid, sometimes called Euclid of

Alexandria to distinguish him from Euclid of Megara

• He was a Greek Mathematician.

• Euclidean Geometry is a mathematical system attributed to the Alexandrian Greek Mathematician Euclid, which he described in his textbook on geometry: The Elements.

HIS DISCOVERY• In the Elements, Euclid deduced the

principles of what is now called Euclidean Geometry from a small set of Axioms.

• Euclid also wrote works on perspective, conic sections, spherical geometry, number theory and rigor.

EUCLID’S POSTULATES1. A straight line segment can be drawn joining

any two points.

2. Any straight line segment can be extended

indefinitely in a straight line.

3. Given any straight line segment, a circle can

be drawn having the segment as radius and

one endpoint as center.

EUCLID’S POSTULATES4. All right angles are congruent.

5. If two lines are drawn which intersect a third in such a way that the sum of the inner angles on one side is less than two right angles, then the two lines inevitably must intersect each other on that side if extended far enough. This postulate is equivalent to what is known as the parallel postulate.
