The State of the Filipino Women Report chronicles the achievements of the administration of Pres. Benigno C. Aquino III in bridging the gender gap and promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment. The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) included in its report the gender responsvie programs of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP), the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), the Department of Health (DOH) and TESDA’s scholarship programs in various qualifications. One of highlights mentioned under the women economic empowerment program was the Sari-Sari Store Training and Access to Resources (STAR) Program of TESDA in partnership with Coca Cola Far East Limited, Inc. in the Philippines.

staff members, trainees, parents and walk-in clients. It consisted of streamers, advocacy fan and advocacy T-Shirt.

TESDA participated in the Launching Event of the GREAT Women Forum: Stakeholders’ Market-Match Forum and Trade Exchange held on March 11, 2016 at the Yuchengco Museum, RCBC Plaza, Makati City participated by Ms. Lucy Tabu, Unit Head, Research, Advocacy, and Gender and Development Unit (RAGADU), TESDA Women’s Center;

TESDA also participated in the Public Event: “Sama-Samang Pagsulong sa mga Agenda ni Juana,” an assembly of women and GAD advocates focused on celebrating the achievements, gains and accomplishments with regards to bridging the gender gap and promoting women’s empowerment. The highlight of the event was the Agenda ni Juana Casting of Votes. It was held on March 16, 2016 at the Burnham Green, Quirino Grandstand, Luneta Park, Manila. The TESDA delegation was composed of 40 officials and personnel from the Central Office, NCR, Region IV-A and the TWC.

TESDA officials and staff also attended the DOLE-led activity entitled “Arise

Women” held on March 11, 2016 at the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Intramuros Manila attended by DDG Pascua, Ms. Mylene Somera, Mr. Rene Geron, and Ms. JoennaTabu;

TESDA set-up a booth that showcased the training programs especially non-

traditional qualifications offered to women during the public event at the Quirino Grandstand on March 16, 2016. Advocacy materials such as flyers and training schedule were distributed to various clients;

II. TESDA Regional Offices

National Capital Region

1. Regional Director Nenuca E. Tangonan of TESDA National Capital Region participated in the Workshop on TVET and Gender Equality organized by UNESCO in celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8, 2016 held in Paris. Dir. Tangonan was one of the Resource Persons of the event. She presented the Gender Sensitivity Training in TESDA’s Training Institutes.

2. The TESDA Women’s Center organized and conducted Gender Sensitivity Training for Parents and Guardians of TWC Trainees held on March 18, 2016 with 170 participants. The training was held in four (4) venues conducted by TWC trainers. It was aimed at increasing the participants’ level of awareness on gender-related principles, concepts and issues.

3. The TESDA Women’s Center also organized another 1-day GAD activity held on March 18, 2016 participated by 200 parents and guardians of trainees highlighting the following:

a. Orientation about the National Women’s Month b. TWC version of the Casting of Votes on Women’s Top 5 Issues to be

included in the agenda! The responses showed the following top 5 priority agenda items of

women: Improved protective and welfare assistance for distressed female

migrant workers Strengthened social protection for workers in the informal economy

and other vulnerable groups Improved access to justice of victims of abuse and violence, especially

women and girls with disabilities and other vulnerable groups Improved education, awareness-raising and women’s participation in

gender-responsive climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction and management towards building resilient communities

Improved information dissemination on government programs and services for realizing gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls and their human rights

c. Skills Demonstration was conducted as part of capacitating and preparing women to maximize their potentials. More than 200 trainees attended and participated in the various skills demonstrations. Food Processing, Cookery, Bartending, Dressmaking, Housekeeping,

TESDA- ISABELA JOINS WOMEN’S MONTH CELEBRATION

City of Ilagan, TESDA- Isabela Provincial Office and the Provincial Government of Isabela together with other government agencies, non- government organizations in the province carried on with the various activities that highlighted this year’s Women’s Month Celebration at the FNDY Sr. Hall Capitol, Alibagu City of Ilagan, Isabela.

The celebration was attended by the Hon, Maria Leonor “ LENI “ Robredo, Member, House of Representative Camarines Sur, 3rd District where she acknowledged the great role of women as partners in political as well as business endeavors. She also challenge women to continue learning particularly their rights as women. She was overwhelmed with the great participation of the different Local Gov’t. Units, government and non-government organizations and other sectors in the province.

“Kapakanan ni Juana, Isama sa Agenda” resonates the call for gender balance in leadership and decision making positions both in public and private sector, inclusion of women’s as leaders and preparing them to reach their goals and Republic Act No. 9262, “An Act Defining Violence Against Women and their Children, was the center of discussion during the forum conducted and facilitated by the Guest Speaker Hon. Lourdes S. Panganiban, Mun. Mayor- Angadanan, Isabela.

Before the said program, a thanksgiving mass was officiated and immediately after all participants are requested to participate in the ZUMBA. Parlor games and raffle draws highlighted the affair.

Lagar, Regional Gender and Development (GAD) Focal, presented the background, mandate and objectives of the said event with the theme: “Kapakanan ni Juana, Isama sa Agenda”. FINANCIAL LITERACY TRAINING FOR WORKING WOMEN

In line with the National Women’s Month Celebration last March, 2016; the City Vice-Mayor’s Office of LGU-Masbate City headed by Vice-Mayor Ruby M. Sanchez-Morano in partnership with TESDA Masbate Provincial Office conducted Financial Literacy Training for Working Women last March 29 and 31, 2016 at the SP Session Hall, Masbate City.

The training aims to provide the participants with the ability to make family budget, set goals and financial plan to enable them to translate it to savings and investment programs; understand the various savings and investment instruments that they can avail of as well as understand when to borrow and the borrowing cost.

The participants to the said training were 41 employees of the LGU-Masbate City. The training includes lectures, workshops and individual and group presentations.

Resource persons were TESDA Masbate Provincial Director Ms. Mildred F. Marcaida and TESD Specialist II Ms. Ria C. Gomez. This is an echo of the Training of Trainers on Financial Literacy and Addressing Barriers to Reintegration they have attended at Grand Tower Suites, Iloilo City last August 15 to 19, 2011 conducted by Atikha Overseas Workers Initiative, Inc. and International Organization for Migration.

TRAINING ON PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT FOR WORKING WOMEN

To be able to boost the working women’s confidence, improve their communication and language speaking abilities, widen their scope of knowledge, develop certain hobbies or skills, learn fine etiquettes and manners, add style and grace to the way working women look, talk and walk and to overall imbibe oneself with positivity, liveliness and peace; the City Government of Masbate and TESDA Masbate Provincial Office under the “Sirak-Pangabuhayan 2016” conducted last March 18 to 20, 2016 at TESDA Masbate Provincial Office. 

The training is also in connection with the celebration of the Women’s Month 2016. There were 16 participants composed of government employees, TESDA accredited trainers and public and private TVIs teaching and non-teaching personnel. 

Resource person was Ms. Karen J. Punzalan of Doña Maria Subdivion, Daraga, Albay. She is a mother, wife, events coordinator, government employee and beauty queen all rolled into one. She was Ms. Bicol University ’96 Legazpi City, Mutya ng Daragang Magayon ’97 Legazpi City, Mutya ng Pilipinas Bicol ’98 Mayon Intl Hotel, Legazpi City, Rokyaw Ibalnong Awardee 2011 for Beauty & Excellence.

This is the 3rd time that personality development training was held in Masbate to boost the confidence of the Masbateños and to enhance their inner and outer selves.

Region 5 Catanduanes Provincial Office Briefing & Orientation on GAD related programs participated by mothers and learners composed of eighty-two (82) participants conducted at Brgy. Danicop, Virac, Catanduanes on February 21, 2016, an advance activity for the Women’s Month Celebration in coordination with ALS, DSWD and TESDA Catanduanes Provincial Office.
