All patients must be attended immediately for Emergency measures 2. The actual time the patient arrives and leaves the emergency room must be noted at the logbook or chart. 3. All patients must be properly assessed and referred to the physician after taking th Vital signs. 4. Patients should be referred at once to the Physician on duty if the patient’s vital signs are absent and must be given immediate resuscitative measures. 5. All patients for admission must be properly recorded and endorsed to the ward assigned. 6. All medico-legal cases must be recorded in the Medico-legal logbook. 7. All vehicular incidents/accidents must be recorded as Medico-legal case. 8. Informed consent must be obtained from all admitted patients before any treatment or management is started. 9. For incompetent patient/minors consent must be signed by the parents/legal representatives or next of kin. 10. Treatment must be instituted as a means to save lives.

Referral documents must be properly filled up to all patients to be referred to other/higher health facilities.13. A patient who refuses admission must be required to sign a REFUSAL/WAIVER ADMISSION FORM after proper information/explanation have been made.14. Patients not for admission after evaluation must be instructed to comply with the discharge requirements, home medications and follow up visits.Procedures:1. Attend to all patients for Emergency measures.2. Assesses, takes vital signs obtain records/data of patients.

SECTION: NURSING SECTIONSUBJECT: Policy and Procedures for Emergency Room/Admitting Room3. Refers patient to the physician on duty.4. If vital signs are absent, gives/institute immediate resuscitative measures and informs physician at once.5. Secures consent/waiver if refuses admission6. If patient is for surgical intervention, prepares patient and assist surgeon during intervention.7. If patient is for Major Surgery, carries orders for immediate work up/or for special procedures and endorses to ward nurse assigned.8. If patient is for referral to other health facility, prepares referral slip documents.9. If patient is for discharge, instruct patient/relatives to comply with discharge requirements, home medications and follow up instructions.10. If patients is for admission, informs patient/relatives for admission orders and the ward nurse where patient is assigned.11. Secure admission consent.12. Carries STAT doctors orders. Informs and endorses patient,13. Records patient at the admission logbook to include time, manner patient was ushered out to the assigned ward.
