Generalized Specifications 1. Length: Logs shall be cut to standard lengths, 13’ 0”, 19’6” or 39’.

Tolerance on log length is a maximum of +/- 3”. 2. Diameter: Minimum small end diameter is 10” inside bark. Maximum large end diameter is 40” inside bark. 3. “Limbing”: All limbs must be cut flush and parallel to the main bole of the stem. 4. Sweep: The maximum sweep allowed is 3” in any 13 ft segment. Sweep in more than one direction is not allowed. 5. Knots: Maximum knot size for any individual knot at any point on the stem is 4”. Knots are measured perpendicular to the length of the log & are measured across the last completed ring of the knot. There shall not be

any ring knots or whorl knots (a ring or whorl knot is described as more than three knots on the same plane; dead or alive, where the limbs had to be trimmed to meet limbing specifications) Knots are described as where a

limb had to be trimmed to meet limbing specs.

Generalized Specifications Continued 6. Crooks: Crooks or “dog legs” are not allowed.

7. Canker, Cat Face: No defect may extend more than 2” deep into the wood. No continuous defect for 2’ or more. Any multiple defects on stems must be on the same face.

8. Inflection Point: No inflection point tolerated on the log. Inflection point is a sudden change in the log diameter which often occurs at ring knot.

9. Butt Damage: No crushed butts, stump pulls or splits that penetrate more than 2” into solid wood are tolerated.

10. Angle Cut Tolerance: No angle cuts or offsets more than 2” and no more than 2” of swell in the first 1’ section of the stem are tolerated.

11. Shear Tolerance: No shear cut wood.
