Programme Guide
What are Degree Apprenticeships?
The government is committed to achieving three million new apprenticeships by the summer of 2020, delivering a 35% increase compared to the previous five years.
Degree Apprenticeships bring together the best of higher and vocational education, giving apprentices a degree whilst being in paid employment. Apprentices split their time between the university and the workplace and are employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week.
• The course fees are shared between the government and the employer, therefore as an apprentice you can gain a degree without paying any fees.
• If you are a school leaver with A Levels or equivalent this is an alternative route to going to university full-time.
• If you are already studying an apprenticeship at Levels 2-4, the Degree Apprenticeship will provide a progression route to a degree qualification.
• You will be studying for the new Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship (CMDA) which will combine the best of work-based activity and learning that is most appropriate for your new job role.
Higher and Degree apprenticeships include the achievement of academic and vocational qualifications and learning from Level 4 upwards. Degree apprenticeships refer to Level 6 and 7 specifically and are the latest model to be developed as part of higher apprenticeship standards, with apprentices achieving a full bachelor’s or master’s degree as a core component of the apprenticeship.
Chartered Manager Degree ApprenticeshipThe degree has been fully mapped to the ‘standard’, therefore each successful student will achieve a:
• BA (Hons) Business Management
• Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management
• Chartered Manager status (CMgr MCMI)
• Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship
Skills Funding Agency (SFA) The SFA (www.gov.uk/government/collections/sfa-higher-and-degree-apprenticeships) have provided a:

• Information for potential apprentices and their parents
Apprenticeship Standards are the most recent type of apprenticeships available and will be replacing the Apprenticeship Frameworks which are being phased out. New apprenticeship standards are being developed for all business/industry sectors. The standards show what an apprentice will be doing and the skills required of them, by job role. Standards are developed by employer groups known as ‘trailblazers’. Apprenticeship Standards are owned by the Crown. The Leadership and Management Standard was developed by a Trailblazer group of employers, Higher Education institutions and CMI.
Funding
Higher or Degree Apprenticeships are not eligible for student loans as they are funded 1/3 by the employer, 2/3 by the government through the Skills Funding Agency. To claim funding each student requires an Individual Learning Record file, which tracks their progression.
Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship (CMDA)
The CMDA has an assessment plan produced by the ‘trailblazers’. CMDA has occupational competencies and capabilities mapped to a variety of:
• Knowledge
• Skills
• BehavioursThe duration for this apprenticeship is 4 years and is a standard at Level 6. Successful apprentices will achieve a degree in business and management, incorporating vocational and academic elements. English and Maths will be required at a minimum of Level 2. Successful apprentices will become Chartered Members of CMI (CMgr MCMI).
Entry requirementsEmployers will set the selection criteria for their apprenticeships. Most candidates will have A levels (or equivalent) or existing relevant Level 3 qualifications, and English, Maths and ICT at Level 2. Other relevant or prior experience may also be considered.

On the programme you will:
Gateway to End Point Assessment
End Point Assessment
1 Study a range of modules on the Business Management Degree to develop
knowledge, skills and behaviours mapped to the Standard.
2 Learn and undertake assessment within the Individual Learning Plan.
3 Compile a portfolio to provide evidence of the application of learning and the application of management concepts.
4 Undertake a Work Based Project – a substantive piece of work requiring research, design and implementation.
As an apprentice you will need to achieve the following:
1 Chartered Manager status assessment.
2 Confirmation that the final project completes your degree requirements and the degree is therefore awarded.
Final Synoptic Assessment
The apprentice grading assessment is based upon:
Paper review of Portfolio and Project – marked against criteria
to evidence various competences being
practiced.
Panel interview – to clarify and assess behavioural
and skills competences in more depth.
15 minute presentation on Work Based Project.
Inform final grading of apprenticeship.
