Dear Colleague:

It seems like only yesterday we were greeting the new school year, and soon we will be greeting a New Year! While the fall has gone quickly, my colleagues and I have enjoyed talking with many of you at various meetings about division programs, and we look forward to more conversations in 2018.

One of the programs we have focused on recently is Option II, the alternative path bwhich secondary students can complete graduation requirements. Option II offers students opportunities to pursue their academic passions in individualized learning experiences for course credit, and we encourage more districts to support students along that path. To that end, the Department is creating an Option II Statewide Advisory Council of district and NJDOE staff to share ideas on policies, resources and procedures.

We will keep you posted on the work of this council, as well as other tools designedto help you with the ongoing shared responsibility of preparing students for their post-secondary goals, whether college or career.

Enjoy your winter holidays!
