The Love of God

is experienced and revealed

in many ways

G od is Love and they who dwell in love, dwell in God and God in them as John’s Gospel tells us. God made His plan for our salvation after the fall of our first parents because He loved us. In today’s First Reading, the story of Elijah during his time at the woman of Zarephath’s house indicates that God loves everyone. If we open our

hearts to receive His graces, then we would experience His saving power. The love of God was shown to both Elijah, the man of God, and the woman of Zarephath, whom God inspired to take Elijah into her home. The hospitality of the woman showed Elijah God’s power to save. She was prepared by God to take care of him until the rain comes, and at the same time God showed the woman His love and His power to save by giving back her son’s life through Elijah.

The love of God was shown to St. Paul when He converted him on the road to Damascus and put him on a mission to preach the Gospel to the Gentiles. Out of God’s merciful love, He converted a murderer to become His Apostle to the Gentiles. There is no excuse for sinners to say that God does not love them. We will surely experience the love of God when we open our hearts to His saving graces.

God’s love and His plan for the salvation of the world continued to unfold in the New Testament. St. Paul told the people of Galatia that the Gospel he preached was not from human origin. He said: “I did not receive it from a human being, nor was I taught it, but it came through a revelation of Jesus Christ” (Gal 1:12). In the Second Reading during last Sunday’s Mass, we heard St. Paul told the Corinthians that he received from the Lord what he handed down to them. We learn that it is the Mass we are celebrating today that St. Paul received its formula from the Lord and he handed it down to the Corinthians (1Cor. 11: 23ff). The Mass we are celebrating is the expression of God’s love to us.

J esus Christ came to save all people. He makes God’s love present in human relationships. The plan of God for the salvation of all human kind was fulfilled in Christ. In Luke’s version of the beginning of Jesus’ ministry, he put it that Jesus began in Galilee and he was in a synagogue at Nazareth where he stood up to read. He read this from the

Book of Prophet Isaiah: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord.” Jesus was rejected in His own town but He kept on spreading the message of the kingdom of God in other towns and villages because of His love. He continued to make the people experience God’s love by the healing of their illnesses, freeing them from demons, cleansing the lepers to let them return to their own community, feeding the hungry, and many more.

In today’s Gospel Reading, Jesus raised the dead son of a widow in Nain. The people of Nain glorified God, exclaiming that a great prophet has arisen in their midst, and God has visited them. We are glorifying God every day because of His love and mercy we experience.

I believe that you and I would not be here today if God did not love us. Notice that He gave us everything that we think we owned. Let us love His love with everyone we meet today and everyday. Let us also make known to God our love by offering Him the best of our times, talents and treasures.

Portable Restroom Project

U P D A T E

May 31 to June 3

Works were done after 6:00 pm. Water pipes and drainage system were installed on the south side of the restrooms. Thermostat control, aircon units and lights were connected to maintain cool temperature and bright working area inside the restrooms.

Portable Trailer $ 12,300

Trenching of underground sewer pipe $ 4,400

Electrical Materials $ 3,600

Carpentry & Plumbing Materials $ 4,000

Total Expenses to Date $ 24,300

As of June 4, 2013, the total amount raised for this project is $20,000. We were able to raise less than $6,000 in the last two weeks. More than $2,000 of this amount are pledges.

We still need your financial help. The source of our funding for this project while waiting for donations and pledges to come are the General and Capital Campaign Funds.

The General Fund comes from your weekly offerings that

The breakdown of expenses are as follows:

Volunteer electricians Leo

Velasquez and Ed

are earmarked for general expenses like utilities, wages, maintenance and others. Capital Campaign Fund is your money that is made to pay our church loan. Your weekly offerings are funding short-term financing of this project. Donations made for the restrooms are made to pay the money borrowed from these funds. If we fail to replenish the general fund on time, other services like the utilities and wages will be affected.

The restroom project is a result of a define need coming from our children in our Faith Formation classes. This is for their safety, convenience and comfort. We hope that most of us will contribute in having this project completed by July.

Please remit donations made with note: "Restroom Donations" on your check.

THANK YOU for your generosity!

We still need a volunteer plumber to course the main pipe to the direction of the portable restrooms. The area has already been prepared. Volunteers are also needed to clean the area and its surroundings. They can come in Saturday afternoon after 2:00 pm.

We have a handful of volunteers this week, yet few works were done because of funding constraint. One of our volunteers decided to donate materials needed for water piping. We used pex and copper pipes to save money.

We have new volunteers to do the painting of external walls and the two containers. Oscar Lara and his son came and asked if they can donate paint and do the painting themselves.

Catholic Trivia

Liturgically and Biblically, what is the

most important Christian holiday,

which is described in every gospel?

A. Christmas B. Halloween C. Easter D. Thanksgiving

Answer is C. While Christmas is very important, Easter is the most important because it is our Lord's resurrection, the day He conquered death! Christ's death and resurrection are described in all four Gospels; the story of His birth appears in only two.

N ot well-known or highly touted in conversations about the Diary of Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska are the pangs of abortion she suffered on behalf of souls who experienced this tragic

occurrence. It’s quite obvious from Saint Faustina’s entry that abortion is not just an issue with Catholicism or the Pro-Life movement, but is also an issue with God Himself. Here is Saint Faustina’s entry (1276):

September 16, 1937. I wanted very much to make a Holy hour before the Blessed Sacrament today. But God’s will was otherwise. At eight o’clock I was seized with such violent pains that I had to go to bed at once. I was convulsed with pain for three hours; that is, until eleven o’clock at night. No medicine had any effect on me, and whatever I swallowed I threw up. At times, the pains caused me to lose consciousness. Jesus had me realize that in this way I took part in His Agony in the Garden, and that He Himself allowed these sufferings in order to offer reparation to God for the souls murdered in the wombs of wicked mothers. I have gone through these sufferings three times now. They always start at eight o’clock in the evening and last until eleven. No medicine can lessen these sufferings. When eleven o’clock comes, they cease by themselves, and I fall asleep at that moment. The following day, I feel very weak.

This happened to me for the first time when I was at the sanatorium. The doctors couldn’t get to the bottom of it, and no injection or medicine helped me at all or did I myself have any idea of what the sufferings were about. I told the doctor that never before in my life had I experienced such sufferings, and he declared he did not know what sort of pains they are. But now I understand the nature of these pains, because the Lord himself has made this known to me. Yet when I think that I may perhaps suffer in this way again, I tremble. But I don’t know whether I’ll ever again suffer in this way; I leave that to God. What it pleases God to send, I will accept with submission and love. If only I could save even one soul from murder by means of these sufferings!

Something to keep in mind is that Saint Faustina was a victim soul. God called her to experience suffering on behalf of the world’s sins. As Christians, God calls all of us to pray for mercy on behalf of our own sins and the sins of the world. Saint Faustina’s Diary is not her own. She was God’s instrument to express His thoughts to the world. This diary is a diary of mercy not judgment. It is the mercy of God we seek in prayer, not the judgment of God. There are many women who have had abortions who today very much wish they had not. Jesus gave us the Divine Mercy Chaplet as a means to seek His mercy for all souls. And certainly it is no coincidence that Jesus arranged that the Divine Mercy Chaplet could be prayed using His Mother’s beads.
