Interesting meeting tonight, guest speaker was our own Barry Winmar speaking about

Nyoongar Wellbeing and Sports, Barry is their current CEO appointed April 2019. Barry is a very accomplished and competent administrator having held many roles in

government ‘not for profit’ agencies over the years.

Barry has a Master of Business Administration (Distinction) from Edith Cowan

University.

Barry Winmar grew up in the Wheatbelt town of Kellerberrin

and was actively involved in the community through sport.

Barry predominately played football, basketball and cricket

growing up, but also excelled at softball, darts, hockey and

tennis.

Barry has held a number of senior positions within the

Western Australian Public Service and Government.

These include Management roles working in Police, Child Protection, Justice with a

focus on policy and legislation, community development and policy development that

directly impact on Aboriginal communities.

Barry is a family man dedicated to his wife and four children. Barry holds strong

family values and is committed to drive long term sustainable change by delivering

inclusive and innovative programs to engage Aboriginal families in sport.

Congratulations Ed Samut, on November 16th Ed has served the RC of Kwinana for 21

years, President 2010/11, 2012/13, PHF July 2013. Well done Ed, enjoy your holiday.

11th November 2019

Meeting on the 11th November gave us an opportunity

to acknowledge the members, or family members that

had served in the forces by asking them to wear their

medals.

Our club is well represented in this space so it was

special that we met on this day and allowed us to

applaud their efforts in keeping us safe and giving us

such a wonderful lifestyle.

Next week the numbers will swell again as our partners join us for the

DEBATE!

Thanks to Chris for getting two teams together to battle it out for winning

accolades. The topic has been kept under wraps for now so come along and

join in the fun.

Thank you to everyone for providing feedback to John on their preference

of meal choices. The data will give us a rotation of meals that meet the

tastes of the majority of the members,

The AGM is set for the 9th December at which time we need to set the path

ahead. If you have a particular spot you would like to take up next year

please discuss it with John Iriks before that meeting date.

Club Service report. 11th November 2019

Caterer has responded with a list of meal suggestions which the members viewed and

indicated their anonymous preferences.

There was general acceptance of all suggestions with a minor preference for six items.

Members indicated their satisfaction of the meals for Monday 4/11/2019 as 6.5/10 and this

week 7/10.

This has been communicated to the caterer.

Members have acknowledged an improvement of meal choice and presentation over the

past two weeks.

AGM and elections for 2020/2021

AGM date set for 15/12/2019 (need to check).

Club service director and club secretary will prepare for the nomination of elected

positions in accordance with constitution and by-laws in time for the AGM meeting.

The international Committee (RPTLE) is carrying out the following.

1. GG 1872605 progress report was authorised by the rotary Club of Kwinana on the 7th

September and is only waiting on the President of the Rotary Club of Dili Lafaek to authorise so it can be submitted to foundation.

2. A new application for a global grant GG 2095275 that is jointly supported by District’s 9465 & 9550 is now in draft form, it is only waiting on a couple minor items of information from Timor-Leste, before submitting to foundation. Why am I going thru the blood, sweat and bloody tears again?

3. Will be returning to Timor-leste with a small party working at Baguia, departing Perth 24th November 2019 to 18th December 2019.

4. Working on a foundation dinner with District 9465, this will be a major fund raiser. We envisage two keynote speakers for this event, His Excellency Abel Guterres Timor-leste Ambassador to Australia and a leading Catholic Priest from Timor-Leste. Theme will be the trials and tribulations of the country moving from been under Indonesian rule, to the present day of 20 years as an emerging independent country. The first committee meeting for this event was held on Saturday 3rd November and the event was then was approved in principle at the District Foundation Board on the 7th November We will be holding a follow committee meeting very shortly.

• Ashley Merritt Community Ambassador representing NBN, has extended an invitation for us to have her come and meet with the club to talk about NBN. I have forwarded her contact details and email to Lee for her to follow up and schedule as a guest speaker.

• RSVP’s have been sent to confirm club representatives attending and presenting awards at Year 6 Graduation Ceremony’s at Leda PS, Calista PS, North Parmelia PS, Bertram PS, Medina PS, Orelia PS and St. Vincents PS.

The poem was written by a Canadian Medical Corps doctor, Major John McCrae, who was serving

with a Field Artillery Brigade in Ypres. The death of one of his friends in May 1915, buried in the

cemetery outside his dressing station, affected him severely and he wrote his poem as a way of

expressing his anguish at the loss. He was dissatisfied with the poem when he finished it and threw it

away, but one of his fellow officers retrieved it and was so moved that he sent it to the media in

London, where it was published by Punch on 8 December 1915. It’s simple but evocative

encapsulation of the horror of the trenches has made it the most famous of the war poems.

Gentle Road premises now open for business, business steady.

First Lolly-Run meeting at the COK September 17th will be meeting

monthly till Christmas. Lolly bagging will take place Tuesday 3rd Dec.

Ken Jackman Room, 2.30pm on till finished, everyone welcome to come

along and help.

Busy Bee, BBQ trailer needs some TLC, Wednesday 8am till 11am.

Need a couple of more helpers.

Public Relations:

Norm Mc: Ian couldn’t fined his glasses when leaving Chris’s house, was about to go back,

Norm with a bit of sarcasm, “they’re on your head’ Ha! Ha! Just then Chris

appeared with a pair of glasses that had been left behind, belonging to Norm!!!

John Iriks received a phone call for Max the other day, apologising for being missing for the

breakfast on Anzac Day, last Monday. John didn’t know what he was on because

it’s Remembrance Day Max and no breakfast required. (Sorry Max I just had to

report that one, ED)

Polio This Week 6th November 2019

The GPEI is pleased to announce that the UK Government has

confirmed its commitment to eradicating polio by pledging a

£400 million ($A750m) contribution for the next four years,

which will help vaccinate more than 400 million children a year.

In Pakistan, a circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus type 2 has been

confirmed. A detailed investigation into the origin of the outbreak is

ongoing, with circulation confirmed in a geographically-limited area,

and outbreak response is being planned and implemented.

The call for nominations for membership on the working group has now

been issued, targeting individuals to submit their nominations.

Nyoongar Wellbeing & Sports

Noongar means ‘a person of the south-west of Western Australia,’

or the name for the ‘original inhabitants of the south-west of Western Australia’

and we are one of the largest Aboriginal cultural blocks in Australia.

Noongar are made up of fourteen different language groups (which may be spelt in different ways):

Amangu, Yued/Yuat, Whadjuk/Wajuk, Binjareb/Pinjarup, Wardandi, Balardong/Ballardong,

Nyakinyaki, Wilman, Ganeang, Bibulmun/Piblemen, Mineng, Goreng and Wudjari and Njunga.

Each of these language groups correlates with different geographic areas with ecological

distinctions. Noongar have ownership of our own kaartdijin and culture. Not all Noongar cultural

history and kaartdijin can be shared.

Nyoongar Wellbeing & Sports (NWS) is an Aboriginal controlled corporation & health promotion

charity.

Formed in 2007 (formerly Nyoongar Sports Association), we’ve developed a strong reputation as a

peak body for building health and wellbeing in the Aboriginal community.

NWS delivers a variety of programs within Nyoongar country, an area of 300,000 square kilometres

with roughly half of the West Australian Aboriginal population (40,000) residing in this region.

Small team of ten and all the operational staff are Aboriginal – 100% of the team.

An old Indian was asked what his wife's name was.

"Wife Name - Three Horse."

“That’s an unusual name for your wife – Three Horse – What does it mean?”

“It’s old Indian name means.... Nag – Nag – Nag”

A man walks into his bedroom and sees his wife packing her suitcase.

He asks: "What are you doing?"

She answers: I'm moving to Sydney. I heard that prostitutes there get paid $400 for doing what I do

for you for free."

Later that night, getting ready to leave, the wife walks into the bedroom and sees her husband

packing his suitcase. When she asks where he is going, he replies:

"I'm coming too. I want to see how you live on $800 a year..."
