Introduction on Social Networking
Facebook just for kids? In 2009, the fastest growing demographic was women 55+. All told, in 2009, 45% of Facebook’s US audience is now 26 years old or older
Privacy Concerns – that’s been in the news recently. Like all things, Facebook is a choice. All your members do not have to be on there, but for the ones who are already on Facebook, this is a great place for them to get more club information. And to share your information with the public.

Facebook is a Great Way to Promote Your Club. Here’s what you can do:
• You can create Events to invite your “like” minded community members: added bonus, for folks who have facebook on their blackberries, the event automatically posts to their calendar
• You can post photos from recent meetings• You can post videos from meetings, fundraising
events, more• You can link a press release that appeared in a local
paper to your Facebook page/group
![Page 8: Dist conf 2010 social media](https://reader036.fdocuments.in/reader036/viewer/2022082502/555282fab4c905b4598b5016/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
Facebook is a Great Way to Promote Your Club. Here’s what you can do:
• You can share information from RI, your district, and your club to your friends
• If you have a “blog” for your Rotary club, you can feed it through to your Facebook site
• You can wish Fellow Rotarians Happy Birthday (Retain your Rotarians)
• You can use Facebook as a recruitment tool for your club
• You can purchase Ads, these appear on the right hand side and you can promote upcoming events

How to Sign Up on Facebook
There are two types of “accounts” you can create for your clubFan Page• This is a set up to be run by a few administrators • They are in charge of content and the page is setup to be run from
the top-down in terms of organization• The “voice” is very branded. A Group• A Group is designed to be communally owned, with an
administrator just there to create the group/maintain the content.
You control the settings on each: you can be open, you can be by invite only, you can restrict who can do what things (like post links, pictures, etc.)

A Word of Caution…
But don’t think you can just use Facebook and not have a website, you still need a website. This is just another way to
promote your club!

How To Get Started
• Log on and spend a week watching how it works• Accept Friends• “like” some other Rotary pages, so you can see what
other clubs are doing• Remember, you can’t “break it”. If you put something
up you don’t like, just delete the post, or remove the event.
• And then, “Just do it”. You have nothing to lose!
