The Global Alliance for Media Innovation is a change accelerator. It turns innovation into practical benefits for your business. The central point of WAN-IFRA’s Global alliance for Media Innovation (GAMi) is to offer media organisations a complete range of services that help drive business success and growth by stimulating cross collaboration among news organisations, technology providers, and research centres. Our programme is about bringing economies of scales in developing and acquiring tools and expertise to convert innovation into profit.

WAN-IFRA, the global network of news publishers and technology providers, is opening its network to a broad array of innovation partners: public and private research centres and labs, start-ups and innovative technology providers, venture capital, and research funding partners to create an comprehensive ecosystem of innovation in news media. Over the past decade, the value chain of news
organisations has exploded. This transformation has
been boosted by innovation in both end user
technologies and professional practices, often driven
by academic research and advance collaboration
between established companies and emerging
technology providers. Traditional news publishers
must embrace this opportunity, and evolve from a
culture that is at times insular, guarded and top-down
in its decision making to one that is collaborative,
intellectually curious and driven by experimentation.
Our central point is to boost pro-active innovation in
news organisations by bridging research centres,
start-ups, and other established advanced tech
companies, with publishers. The International Alliance
for Media Research and Innovation seeks innovation
through rapid-fire, low-cost experimentation on
popular platforms.

Our Programme
The Media Innovation Hub is a change accelerator. The
environment for our industry for the future is one of constant
change and innovation. This change needs to be both faster and
broader. Our industry requires a reliable flood of new
technologies, products, and business models. We are witnessing
the future of news media being invented right now, all around
the globe, by hundreds of companies, universities, and
entrepreneurs. However, their separate efforts, research,
prototypes, and roll-outs receive inconsistent attention and
analysis. Many good ideas fail only because of a lack of
development support. Others get hyped beyond their real
value. Vital lessons and examples are not being widely enough,
or rapidly, enough disseminated. The Media Innovation Hub
will track, classify, and assess resources. The Hub is a world-
class knowledge base for tools, vendors, expertise and ideas to
help grow reader engagement and revenues.
