The American Chemical Society Small Chemical Businesses Division (SCHB) garnered ACS full status approval in 1980

In our thirty-third year our mission remains the same: to aid in the formation, development and growth of small chemical businesses

SCHB continuously provides relevant programming at National and Regional ACS Meetings for those who currently own and operate their own small chemical businesses as well as to those budding entrepreneurs amongst us.

PATRON MEMBERSHIPS Corporations or organizations wishing to become Patron

Members are those that wish to foster the Division’s objectives as defined in the SCHB Bylaws II, Section 3. These objectives include the following:

• To aid in the formation, development, and growth of small chemical businesses.

• To address the legal, social, educational, legislative, regulatory, and economic needs of self-employed chemists and ACS members who are employed by small chemical businesses.

• To encourage, promote, and organize personal interaction among members of the Division and other chemists, institutions, or organizations interested in the promotion of free enterprise among chemists.

• To serve as a clearinghouse for information about services available to members engaged in or planning to start small chemical businesses.

• To provide liaison between small chemical businesses needing part-time employees and chemistry students needing income and experience.

• To provide the expertise and experience of its members to the SOCIETY and for the betterment of the public.

• This is a new program we started at the Fall National Meeting in Indianapolis

• The Monday lunch we co-hosted with the ACS Division of Professional Relations (PROF)

• We invited SCHB sponsored and co-sponsored National Meeting speakers to networking lunches

• We used social media to promote these lunches

• We expect to continue to these lunches at National Meetings

Additionally, the Division together with the Local Section (NESACS), with materials supplied by the MOS Boston, coordinated a chemistry outreach table at the AAAS Meeting Family Science Days

Tool Kit and Success Stories a half day technical program at #CERM2013 including our flagship American Chemical Society programming: Trues Stories of Success, Resources for Start-ups and Best Practices for Chemical Entrepreneurs rolled into a half day program at the Central Regional Meeting of the American Chemical Society.

Small Chem Biz is a semi-annual publication that is released before the National Meetings

SCHB sends out monthly eblasts to keep members informed about Division news and events

CM&E is a topical group of the New York Section, ACS. SCHB sponsored this group's December meeting (Thursday, 12/6/12 at the Yale Club in midtown Manhattan). This was the first CM&E presentation of Awards for (Chemical Industry) Leadership as well as a topical meeting (Third Annual M&A Outlook), which supported STEM education. In addition, local high school student Chris Hillenbrand. 2012 Chemistry Olympiad Gold Medalist, was recognized at the meeting. SCHB Members David Deutsch and George Ruger were in attendance.
