September 17, 2015

Dear Friends:

Welcome to the 3rd annual ACS ERC Entrepreneurial Summit. This event offers an exciting opportunity to gather and learn more about the interplay between entrepreneurs, investors, policymakers, academia, and large innovators in their efforts to advance exciting new chemistry-based products and services to market.

We are delighted that world renowned scholar and author, Dr. Rita Gunther McGrath, Professor at Columbia Business College, can be with us today to deliver a keynote on discovery-based innovation and maintaining competitive edge. This is followed by an afternoon keynote from ACS’s own Executive Director & CEO, Dr. Thomas J. Connelly, who will provide deeper insight into the challenges entrepreneurs face, and how execution can lead to success.

New for 2015 are corporate spotlights, featuring nine remarkable innovators sharing their technology interests and processes for enabling their success. Today’s combination of innovator spotlights and keynotes promises to deliver exciting new and useful insight to attendees.

Day 2 of the Summit offers some new approaches from ACS. ACS is exploring the opportunity to help chemical start-ups in more meaningful and productive ways. Toward that end, tomorrow’s morning program addresses three specific “pain points”, namely, developing the customer, promoting your best value proposition, and creating meaningful and lasting relationships with investors or partners. We also will hear from ACS’s Divisions and Committees about their latest efforts to assist entrepreneurs through legal, business, and product development perspectives. The Summit’s afternoon program “pivots” again with the presentation of four “pitches” from the ACS Entrepreneurial Resources Center’s best showcase start-ups.

I’m proud to suggest that this year’s Summit provides a wide range of programming that promises to offer something for everyone, whether you are entrepreneur, student, investor, policymaker, academic, intrapreneur, or corporate partner.

I look forward to meeting you, and sharing ways to improve people’s lives through the transforming power of chemistry.

Sincerely,

Diane Grob Schmidt, Ph.D. 2015 President
