Juried Fine Art Competitionfor Active Adults 50 and Better
Entries Due: April 24, 2019 at 3 p.m.Charleston Heights Arts Center
What you need to know:• By entering Celebrating Life, the artist agrees to
leave their work up through the end of the exhibit date. No artist can remove their artwork without consent of the city visual arts staff.
• Open to residents in Clark, Esmeralda, Lincoln, Mineral and Nye Counties. Artwork must be hand delivered or shipped to the address on this form. If shipping the work, the costs of round trip shipping are at the artist’s expense and must be pre-paid.
• Artists 50 and better are eligible to participate.• No entry fee.• Only one work per artist.• Artwork must have been completed
within the past three years and not previously juried into Celebrating Life.
• There will be a Salon des Refusés for all work not juried into the main exhibit.
• City galleries cannot take responsibility for work that exceeds $1,500 in listed value.
Size limits and preparing artwork:• Artwork must be ready for immediate display if
selected for exhibition. • All parts of the artwork must be secured to
adjacent parts. For example, sculptures must be securely glued or welded together.
• All two-dimensional work must have a wire secured to the back, ready for hanging.
• Two-dimensional, not to exceed 42” in either direction, including frame.
• Three-dimensional, not to exceed 16” wide or 22” high.
• A pedestal and vitrine will be provided for three-dimensional work selected for the exhibition.
• Sculpture cannot exceed 80 lbs.
The juror will select the artwork and award winners for the final exhibition.
• City of Las Vegas employees are not eligible to apply.
• City staff retains the right to disqualify any entries that do not meet entry requirements; this includes, but not limited to, size and weight limits.

Work that has won an award will be moved to city hall.Work in the main exhibit, but not in the winner’s circle, must be picked up on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Artwork left past 10 days of pick up date will become property of the city.

JUROR’S BIO
Ted G. DeckerTed Decker is an Arizona native and graduated from Northern Arizona University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing. His business career in-cludes banking management, operations manage-ment at two private educational foundations in Washington, DC, private investments that includ-ed real estate, oil and gas drilling and exploration, and cattle feeding, managing a telephone sales group, in private art consultation and collections management, and as an adjunct college professor. For over four decades, he has passionately col-lected art, and owns and maintains a collection of nearly 1,000 works, produced primarily by artists living in Arizona, the United States and in Latin America, mainly in Brazil, Cuba, and Mexico. Since 2013 he has taught over 38 various Art History courses, as well as Professional Practices for Vi-sual Artists and Designers and Gallery/Museum Operations courses at Mesa Community College. In addition to teaching, he works as an indepen-dent art and marketing consultant with clients and
as an independent curator on projects in Phoenix, Latin America, and Europe on an ongoing basis.
In 2010, he co-founded Phoenix Institute of Con-temporary Art (phICA) and currently serves as its Director and Curator. He has served as President of the Contemporary Forum at the Phoenix Art Museum, twice as Chair of the Advisory Board of the ASU Art Museum, and as Vice Chair of the Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture, and chaired its Public Art Committee for four years. He has served on the Regional Light Rail Art Committee since 2003. He has been nominated for Arizona Governor’s Arts Award (Individual) three times, most recently in 2019.
As an advocate for the visual arts and artists for over 4 decades, he has provided nearly $120,000 in mostly mini-grants directly to artists for build-ing the professional side of their careers through the Ted Decker Catalyst Fund he established in 2003. In 2001, he earned a Master of Arts degree from Arizona State University in Art History after successfully defending his thesis on aspects of Cuban Modernist painting. He previously worked as Associate Director of Development at the Scott-sdale Museum of Contemporary Art and as Manager of Special Museum Initiatives at the ASU Art Museum.
