Welcome to the Hanoi 2018 Annual Partner Summit program!

This year’s summit theme “Discover opportunities, Share solutions and Lead

the future” has been designed to deliver you with opportunities to take your

firm to the next level.

Throughout the summit program, you will hear from our line-up of world

class keynote speakers as they share their expertise to help you navigate

disruption and inspire you with ways to drive innovation within your firms.

Networking with entrepreneurs and learning from industry leaders, you’ll be

challenged and inspired as you learn new ways to articulate your intangible

value. Through workshops, keynotes and specialist streams, you’ll hear

new and compelling ways your firm can build more trust, develop deeper

relationships with your clients, and define your unique points of difference.

As a first-time attendee, I’m looking forward to the opportunity to meet

more of our community and share first hand my thoughts on the future of

our industry and the role I see Centrepoint playing.

There is nothing more empowering than a community of like-minded

advisers coming together to share ideas and that plays a huge part in what

makes Centrepoint and the Annual Partner Summit such a great experience.

I am excited to share this unique learning experience with you.

In an ongoing age of information overload and technical disruption, connecting in a way that is both

effective and engaging is needed more than ever before.

In this entertaining and educational keynote, Gabrielle will show leaders how they can ensure their

messages are not only understood but remembered. Pointing out the hidden consequences and often

hilarious absurdity of using corporate jargon and business speak, Gabrielle will provide compelling reasons

and insights for why leaders need to embrace storytelling to connect, engage and inspire.

The audience will experience first-hand the power of sharing personal stories to communicate business

messages. In addition, they will gain valuable insights on what makes a story a story and how to avoid the

most common mistakes when sharing stories in business.

ABOUT THIS SESSIONDay one 8.50 am - 10.00 am

Gabrielle Dolan can tell you a story or two. In fact, it was while working in a senior leadership role at National Australia Bank that she realised the power of storytelling in effective business communication. Since that epiphany, Gabrielle has found her calling as a global thought leader on authentic leadership and business storytelling, and is a highly sought-after keynote speaker, educator and author.

THE VALUE OF ADVICECARL RICHARDS

Carl Richards is a certified financial planner, the creator of the weekly Sketch Guy column in the New York Times and a columnist for Morningstar Advisor. Through his simple sketches, Carl makes complex financial concepts easy to understand. His sketches also serve as the foundation for his two books; The One-Page Financial Plan: A Simple Way to Be Smart About Your Money and The Behaviour Gap: Simple Ways to Stop Doing Dumb Things with Money (Portfolio/Penguin).

ABOUT THIS SESSIONDay one 10.55 am - 12.05 pm

The value of a real financial adviser has never been higher! In this keynote, Carl Richards will explore why

that is true and provide some concrete examples of how you can communicate that value to clients.

Retail property

The advent of online retailing provides a

dynamic landscape for commercial property.

With the hype of Amazon and US department

store closures, coupled with low wages growth,

it’s understandable to be concerned about the

future of shopping malls. But how does this

explain the heaving crowds and low vacancy

rates in the best shopping centres in Australia?

Simone will explain why it’s not Armageddon

for retailers and shopping centres – those who

adapt, invest and innovate will succeed in the

natural retail evolution, where the fittest will

survive and thrive.

Speaker: Scott Hoger,Technical Account ManagerTAL

The future of risk adviceWhat does the future of risk advice look like?

And how can the financial advice practice of

the future meet the challenges of change and

continue to help their clients profitably?

The risk practice of the future will start to

charge advice fees, but not in the traditional

sense. A shift in thinking is needed about how

we value the advice we provide. We believe

that by shifting the focus of advice from the

product itself to the possible claim, we can

assist advisers in demonstrating the value

of advice. This session will look to the future

with a view to help retain and grow practice

revenue in the risk space.

The proposed shake up of default insurance cover

In the 2018 Federal Budget, the Government

announced proposed changes to default insurance

arrangements. This presentation will cover some

of the hidden concerns and opportunities to

consider when engaging with clients pre and post

the implementation of these changes. In particular,

assumptions around the default insurance existing

for many industry funds, the impacts for the

broader community beyond just those aged under

25, and the opportunities for advice.

Implications and opportunities for retail advice.

Building your insurance philosophyASIC report 413 provides an outline of

Uncovering business insights with data and analyticsThis edition of The Big Questions Series looks at

how advice businesses can use data and analytics

to better understand their clients and business.

In this presentation, we use Colonial First State

DNA packs to discuss business growth, revenue

and asset allocation results for a sample advice

business, and highlight insights which will help

them evolve. We also look deeper into three

THE FUTURE OF INVESTMENTS IN A CHANGING ADVICE

LANDSCAPEVENTURAFM

ABOUT THIS SESSIONDay three 7.20 am – 8.20 am

markets, and technological developments. Join the conversation over breakfast to position your clients

INSPIREDLEADERSHIP

KEVIN GASKELL

A highly motivational and engaging speaker, Kevin Gaskell believes that ordinary people can achieve extraordinary results - and he has the experiences to prove it. He has led global corporations, start-ups, private equity portfolio companies and organisations large and small to create shareholder value in excess of $5 Billion. He has also found the time to walk to both the North and South Poles and climb the world’s highest mountains to fund the construction of a cancer treatment unit.

ABOUT THIS SESSIONDay three 8.30 am – 9.40 am

How you can achieve extraordinary results in business.

Key Deliverables:

• Become an inspiring leader, stimulate your team’s desire to be world class

• Commit to change, build belief, dare to dream, build the plan

• Connect the team with the plan, make the impossible possible

• Create a culture of innovation, motivate genius, recognise and reward

• Become better then bigger, achieve extraordinary results

INSPIRED LEADERSHIP WORKSHOPFacilitated by Kevin Gaskell

The most successful companies recognise the need to periodically stop, step away from daily operations

and take some quality time to refresh their thinking and planning. This is necessary to challenge the

current reality and to drive the business onto the next level of success.

This interactive session will support the delegate to apply the process of review and regeneration. The

workshop is designed to encourage the delegate to achieve a clarity of vision, a prioritised activity plan

and an introduction to a series of practical tools developed to support the leadership team to engage the

entire workforce in building a world class future.

The financial advice profession has been built on trust. However, when trust is at risk… everything is at risk.

Many advisers today are facing a world of distracting ‘noise’, including increased competition, confusing

media negativity, the time-consuming realities of compliance, and a complex future with robo-advice and

the impact of emerging artificial intelligence driven solutions. This noise creates doubt and apprehension

in the minds and hearts of existing and potential clients (and quite a few advisers as well). To silence the

noise, more than ever, a revisit of what it really means to be trustworthy is not only timely, but essential

to winning and retaining more clients

This session will show you how to develop more confidence for self-trust and trusting others, and the

combined character and competence required to earn others’ trust.

ABOUT THIS SESSIONDay three 11.25 am – 12.35 pm

Academically, David is a behavioural scientist. For most of his adult life, he has been fascinated by what causes people to think, feel and act the way they do. His ground-breaking research linking employee intention, trust and self-determination provides insights to practical strategies and a blueprint for corporations to build collaborative trust relationships that are good for employees, customers and the bottom line.

Hanoi, located on the banks of the Red River, is one

of the most ancient capitals in the world, where

travellers can find well-preserved colonial buildings,

ancient pagodas, and unique museums within the city

centre. A great place to explore on foot, this French-

colonial city is also known for its delectable cuisine,

vibrant nightlife, silks and handicrafts, as well as a

multi-cultural community that’s made up of Chinese,

French and Russian influences. Meanwhile, its tranquil

countryside is a short drive away, featuring lush parks,

verdant mountains, and traditional villages, and not

forgetting, the iconic Ha Long Bay. If you’re a first-

time visitor to the Vietnamese capital, our Hanoi travel

guide has everything you need to know for a fulfilling

holiday, including the best accommodation, restaurants,

attractions, shopping, and detailed information on the

local culture, currency, climate, and transport options.

What Should I Expect?

For more information regarding the hotel or local surroundings, please visit the hotel concierge or Centrepoint registration desk.

Visitors often opt to rent a private car (and driver) when arriving at the airport in Hanoi. This is considered to be an efficient and inexpensive form of transportation. Car rental companies assign drivers as guides to assist visitors in getting around the area. This is standard procedure and a common way for visitors to get in and out of the city after arriving in Hanoi. Having a private car hire and driver which serves as a guide as well is a good way to become acquainted with Hanoi and/or surrounding area when arriving. Visitors interested in getting themselves around without a driver often rent motorcycles or mopeds instead of cars. For more information on public transport click here.

Hanoi shopping scene is renowned for its bustling markets and colonial shophouses, but there are a growing number of flash boutiques and shopping malls thanks to the city’s rapid modernisation. Traditional markets (outdoor and indoor) are scattered across the city with local vendors selling Vietnamese coffee beans, household supplies, and Vietnamese street food at attractive prices, while Hang Da Street is great for purchasing quality textiles and custom-made clothes. Shopping malls in Hanoi are great options for when you need to escape the afternoon heat, catch the latest Hollywood films, and shop for internationally-renowned brands. Many of these establishments are also fitted with arcade centres, ice-skating rinks, and theme parks – perfect for travellers with young children. If you’re visiting the capital city of Vietnam for the first time, make sure you check out our helpful guide on what to buy and where to shop in Hanoi. For more information on shopping in Hanoi please click here.

Tipping for service is not expected in Vietnam but is most certainly appreciated. A tip of one or two dollars for a meal or one dollar to a cyclo driver can be a substantial bonus in a country where the annual average income is only US$ 600! You should tip at your own discretion however we recommend you allow $25 per day for your driver and guide.

Expect a new travel experience. Expect to see a picture-perfect landscape of rice paddies and water buffaloes. Expect bustling cities and busy streets of bicycles and motorcycles which are a challenge to cross. Expect to be popular with the locals, to be stopped in the street for an unexpected conversation. Expect lazy afternoons at a beach where fresh crab is on the menu. Expect newly built international hotel properties in the major centers and renovated 3-star properties in the provinces. Expect stunning mountain passes and endless photo opportunities. Expect to take caution with your valuables. Expect to find unexpected bargains! Expect crowded airports. Expect your guide to take care of that for you. Expect to sample a new and unique cuisine. Expect a hamburger from the hotel buffet when you crave it. Expect the noise, expect the heat. Expect to learn about daily rituals and traditions performed for hundreds of years, to hear legends, to smell exotic spices in a local market. Expect to eat French loaves. Expect to marvel at ancient towers that remain standing after 500 years, through wars and countless monsoon storms. Expect exciting new art. Expect welcoming smiles …
