September 8 th , 2020 Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Dear Parishioners and Friends, I am happy to announce the good news that our beloved Santa Cruz Church is re-opening for public Masses beginning the weekend of September 12-13. The Bishop already gave permission for this at the beginning of August but since I was away most of that month, I thought it better to wait until after Labor Day weekend. We are still required to follow the protocol established regarding public Mass inside the church. The protocol (set of rules) was approved by the Bishop back in May. Following these simple rules will ensure reasonable safety of all parishioners and visitors. Please know that there still is an inherent risk, regardless of age or health, in attending Mass at Santa Cruz. Therefore, Bishop Weisenburger urges those identified in the Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines as highly at risk to refrain from in-person participation at Masses. This includes persons with chronic health conditions as well as persons age 65 and older. The Bishops dispensation from participating in Sunday Mass in person remains in place for all persons living in or visiting the Diocese of Tucson. Safety Protocol at Santa Cruz Church Property includes (but is not limited to) the following: Social Distancing: a minimum of 6 feet apart; families may sit together. Wearing a mask is required for all persons 6 years and older. Ushers will escort attendees to available seating areas. The front entrance double door (6 th Ave.) will be used as the only entry point. Maximum attendance will be 75. Holy Communion will take place in the church patio following the final blessing and dismissal from Mass. There will be no shaking of hands as a sign of peace or holding of hands at Our Father. Holy Communion will be received only in the hand. Communicants will not receive the Precious Blood. Hand sanitizer will be available. We have scheduled three indoor Masses during the weekend: 5:30 p.m. Saturday Vigil Mass 6:30 a.m. Sunday 6:00 p.m. Sunday We will continue to live stream the Sunday Mass at 11:00 a.m. We will also continue with the outdoor Masses in the school field at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday (English) and Sunday (Spanish) and also with the Tuesday to Friday Masses at 7:00 p.m. at the school ramada (Bilingual). On Monday, September 14th, there will be a solemn Mass in the school field in honor of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross at 5:30 p.m. Bishop Weisenburger has granted me the faculty to confirm all those of our parish whose confirmation was postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic. Confirmation will take place during this Mass.
