Natural hazards continue to cause deaths, injuries and economic loss every year and severely affect the lives of children. Save the Children’s Presence in Colombia Save the Children has worked in Colombia since 1991, focusing on improving children’s access to quality education. We’ve helped thousands of children avoid recruitment into armed groups, and we continue to find ways to protect children and young people from violence and exploitation. Between 2007-2008 Save the Children introduced a DRR program for non formal education for children and youth affected by conflict and natural disasters in Cartagena and surrounding areas in Colombia. With over EUR300,000 in funding from DIPECHO the program directly benefited 1800 children. In addition, in response to severe flooding that accompanied heavier than normal rains, Save the Children visited a series of rural schools to deliver protective rubber boots for students and supplies to the flood devastated campuses.
