This course has been designed to develop your knowledge of current trends in photography,

learn to interpret photo-imaging assignment briefs, consult with clients to refine objectives of photography assignments, select appropriate technologies and workflows to capture images, employ aesthetic, conceptual, compositional and technical skills to photo-imaging outcomes and allow you to gain exposure to a variety of shooting styles.

The Diploma of Photography & Photo Imaging is vocationally orientated and provides diverse, professional and exciting outcomes in photography.

Emphasis is placed on all assessments being relevant to the current photographic industry.

Major projects encourage students to showcase their unique signature styles. Final assessments include a portfolio and exhibition to help promote students as artists and also serve as a valuable marketing tool for your career.

This qualification reflects the role of photography practitioners who possess a sound theoretical knowledge base and use a range of specialised and technical competencies to pre-visualise, plan, carry out and evaluate photography services.

During the course...

\\\\ During the course you will learn the aspects of commercial, editorial/ photo journalism, portraiture and fine art photography.

You will work with such topics as sports and action photography, landscapes, nature, architecture, interiors, fashion, glamour, stock imagery and event photography.

You will also learn extensive digital post production skills with Adobe Photoshop to enable you to create dynamic imagery through graphic effects, and touch up your photos to build a professional and diverse portfolio of work.

\\\\ The Diploma of Photography & photo Imaging is a nationally recognised qualification under the Australian Qualifications Framework.On successful completion students will receive the CUA50915 Diploma of Photography & Photo Imaging qualification.

Graduates may pursue self-employment or freelance work. They may also seek employment as a photographic assistant in industry sectors such as fine art, portrait, fashion, glamour, wedding, travel, sports, illustrative, digital imaging, photo journalism, stock, landscape or nature. Other potential career paths include technical photography, photo lab assistant or photo store assistant.

\\\\ This course offers regular industry excursions and location photo shoots, which will give you amazing opportuni-ties for portfolio development.

An emphasis on industry involvement and extracurricular projects is encouraged to all students to help promote opportunities for success. Throughout the course there will be many opportunities for you to work with our students studying in our fashion, make-up, beauty, styling and interior design courses — giving you further opportunities and experience.

PROJECT ORANGUTAN

The Diploma of Photography & Photo Imag-ing students in collaboration with the styling, makeup and fashion faculties, were given the opportunity to produce photos for the foun-dation that would be used on their website.

GOLD COAST TOURISM MAGAZINE

Students created a series of images for Gold Coast Tourism of which an image by

Marlize Marx was published as front cover of the magazine.

Industry CollaborationDuring the course you may have the opportunity to provide media for various “real-life” projects. One of the advantages of attending the Australian Institute of Creative Design is the ability for faculties to work together on some larger projects that would normally not be possible by one faculty alone.

The Student ID Card can be used to receive dis-counts for software of other items from participat-ing retailers. Students who wish to receive conces-sion travel allowances will need a Student ID card as well as apply through Translink for a student ready Go Card (note: you must be a Queensland resident).

A portable hard drive is recommended of 2TB or more.

We provide printing accounts for students to use the printers at each of the campuses. The minimum credit that can be purchased is $25.00 and once purchased students are provided with a login to the printers to print their items. Printed items are charged as follows... *

35MM DSLR CAMERA

Students will be required to have their own 35mm DSLR Camera with a minimum requirement of 1 lens, although additional lenses are useful. The course coordinator can provide recommendations to the best type of camera to purchase if required.

Additional equipment required: Tripod and Neutral Density Filters.

Additional expenses may be required and these may include (but are not limited to) petrol money to travel for location shoots and expenses towards any exhibitions during your course.

LAPTOP COMPUTER & DESIGN SOFTWARE

Students will be required to have a laptop computer with a wireless network connection to be able to access our wireless network. Please check this course’s webpage to see the laptop and software minimum requirements.

Course FeesVET FEE-HELP is a government loan scheme which assists eligible students under-taking certain courses to pay for all or part of their tuition fees. The loan allows students to study now and pay later by deferring loan repayments until your income is above the minimum repayment threshold ($54,126 in 2015-2016). Once you reach the repayment threshold, repayments are made to the Australian Government through the tax system.

TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR VET FEE-HELP YOU MUST:

• be an Australian citizen or permanent humanitarian visa holder who will be a resident in Australia for the duration of your study,

• meet the tax file number requirements, and

• have not exceeded the FEE-HELP limit.
