Editorial

EDITORIAL Who could have imagined, just ten years ago, that we could go back in time thanks to 3D technology, make buildings smart or transform the shopper experience? The digital revolution is underway and is spreading at the speed of light across all segments of society.

Our “Digital for All, Now” manifesto, which we launched in 2014, has never been so apt: our professional and personal uses are changing and new ways of production, consumption and learning are emerging. Initially adopted in our everyday lives, digital is playing an increasingly important role in our professional uses. For Econocom, making digital innovation tangible, seamless and attractive means successfully implementing complex projects and guaranteeing they run smoothly and securely, boosting performance and providing a truly new service. This is what Econocom employees work on every day by offering our clients practical assistance for their digital transformation. Among these projects, we’ve chosen to showcase twelve digital stories which illustrate our commitment to our clients. These successful projects reflect the diversity of sectors we work in. Digital can, for example, improve our clients’ relations with their end‑clients by offering new experiences as guests, visitors, students or shoppers. It can also boost business and operational performance. These digital stories are simple, real proof of the value we create for all concerned. And the adventure is only just beginning!

> FLEXIBLE FINANCING AND ADMINISTRATIVE MANAGEMENT OF THE EQUIPMENT

ABOUT ACCORHOTELS’ “LEADING DIGITAL HOSPITALITY” PROGRAMMEAccorHotels is the world leader in hospitality with 3,700 hotels in 92 countries. Its “Leading Digital Hospitality” strategic plan is based on a holistic approach to digital challenges and aims to digitalise the entire guest experience, improve the offering for investors and consolidate the group’s market share. It includes 8 programmes focusing on mobile enablement, customisation and a more streamlined customer experience.

IMPROVED DIGITAL COMFORT FOR HOTEL GUESTS

Thanks to Econocom’s financing solution, AccorHotels has just completed one of the three stages of its Digital Plan by installing a highly effective Wi‑Fi structure at its hotels in Benelux.

The hotel chain already had Wi‑Fi, but was looking to improve it by offering a higher‑quality connection and thus ensuring optimal digital comfort for guests’ daily Internet use (streaming, wireless connectivity, etc.). Thanks to Econocom’s financing solution, AccorHotels has installed new Wi‑Fi hotspots in all the rooms as well as in the lobbies, corridors and lifts to ensure optimal connectivity via ultra‑fast bandwidth.

Caro van Eekelen, Chief Operating Officer of Hotel Services Benelux for AccorHotels, said: “The digital revolution is sweeping across the hotel industry, and in our daily lives too. But this exciting change does have some basic requirements – such as a good Internet connection. That’s why this was a major priority for us.”

The hotel group opted for Econocom’s flexible financing solution, covering all the equipment (switches, firewalls, backbone) and installation costs, thereby preserving their cash flow.

The digital transformation of hotels covers the entire customer experience, from check‑in to check‑out. Econocom ultimately aims to be a facilitator for rolling out state‑of‑the‑art technologies such as connected mirrors and robotic butlers. The hotel of the future is just around the corner.

IMPROVE THE AIR QUALITY IN YOUR HOMES IN JUST 1 CLICK!

Specialists in heating, air cooling and air quality, Aldes asked Econocom to design AldesConnect®, the first connected solution for monitoring and controlling indoor air quality via a smartphone. This new application reflects Aldes’ innovation and its plans to branch out into the Internet of Things.

Aldes asked Econocom to design and develop AldesConnect®, a connected solution which, combined with its range of products, will measure and analyse indoor air quality. Using a smartphone, the end‑user can monitor and improve the quality of the air they breathe in real time according to their routine and lifestyle.

For the design and architecture of AldesConnect®, Econocom (a Microsoft Gold Partner) used the Azure IoT suite.

The solution took ten months to co‑build, and consisted of three main phases: • defining the digitalisation strategy

for Aldes’ product range;

• the qualification phase, during which the solution architecture and technologies were selected;

• connecting the products to the Azure IoT cloud and API* to monitor the products remotely.

“Offering our clients innovative products and services which are in tune with their concerns and uses is a key differentiating factor,” said Stéphanie Rouchon, in charge of Corporate Communication for Aldes. “The solution will generate, via IoT technology, new usages, which are a powerful development and growth driver for our business.”

A UNIQUE AUGMENTED VISITOR EXPERIENCE

By acquiring a stake in Histovery, Econocom has embarked on a digital and augmented reality adventure at museums and cultural establishments. For the Château de Chambord in the Loire valley, Histovery chose Econocom to deploy the HistoPad, a solution for tablets which turns visitors’ tours into an exciting journey through time.

An enhanced tour of the châteauDesigned by Histovery, the tablet app creates a fun, educational augmented reality experience which takes visitors on a virtual tour of the château as it was during the Renaissance. The Histopad takes visitors on an interactive, educational, immersive journey back to the reign of King Francis I.

Econocom provided financing and integration for the Histovery augmented reality software. Thanks to the finance lease, the fleet of tablets deployed at the château are covered by clauses ensuring maintenance and upgrades for the whole solution. Histovery can also manage the software updates remotely via the Wi‑Fi connection set up by Econocom in the museum reception area.

The HistoPad is rented out to visitors for a fee per tour.

The HistoPads project could be expanded to museums all over France and overseas: a number of successful deployments have already taken place at the Grévin waxworks museum and the Château de Fontainebleau’s Chinese museum. Other projects are currently underway at the Imagerie d’Épinal and the Conciergerie in Paris.

A REAL‑TIME NEWS WEBSITE FOR A PREMIUM USER EXPERIENCE

French financial and economic daily newspaper La Tribune chose Alter Way, an open source specialist and Econocom Satellite, to provide migration, hosting and outsourcing for its galaxy of web sites. With strict migration requirements and short lead‑times, the project was completed in less than a month and the first results in terms of run and web traffic were soon to materialise.

As a web portal posting daily economic, financial and stock market news, La Tribune. fr has to be up‑to‑date 24 / 7. The publication was an early digital adopter and became France’s first 100 % online newspaper.

La Tribune chose Alter Way to provide migration, hosting and outsourcing. The current web platform, developed using the Symfony2 framework and hosted in a private cloud, was designed to ensure high availability and cope with the peak loads that are inevitable on a non‑stop new site with interactive features (widgets such as web chat, forums, alerts, etc.).

Alter Way completed the migration in just one month, with a scalable hosting solution for a controlled budget. The project’s success was down to the close team effort by La Tribune and Alter Way’s technical teams.

“We chose Alter Way because they were able for meet all the specifications of the call for tender, such as constant availability, natural referencing, and coping with sudden traffic peaks, for example in the event of a major news story. We were equally impressed after the service was deployed,” said Thomas Loignon, Head of New Media at La Tribune.

A NEW DIGITAL SHOPPING EXPERIENCE

For the children’s department of Italy’s leading fashion retailer OVS’s flagship store in Milan, Econocom designed Play Your Look, an original digital platform which offers a unique in‑store experience by defining children’s fashion style based on their musical tastes. As a result: longer in‑store visits, more cross‑selling, higher average basket values and a memorable, fun shopping experience for children and parents alike!

Econocom provided overall governance for the digital project from design to equipment supply, roll‑out in store, training and maintenance.

Play Your Look incorporates three different technologies: Mash Machine so kids can mix sounds like a real DJ, MagicInfo to create and manage video content and the promotional messages shown on the displays, and an innovative sound system composed of Sound Shower speakers that isolate the sound from the store’s background noise.

The success of this innovative digital experience is a result of Econocom’s marketing and communications creativity and its technological and logistics expertise. The solution successfully addressed OVS’s sales and marketing objectives: longer in‑store visits and improved customer conversion and retention. 3

OPTIMAL CUSTOMER RECEPTION IN REPAIR SHOPS 3.0

Renault chose Econocom’s “Digit‑all Windows” solution for its “R‑Book Service” digital transformation project in its repair shops. The aim was to enable the customer service staff to offer an optimal, interactive experience to customers bringing their vehicles in for repairs.

This customised solution is based on a 360° service contract covering hardware supply, management, hosting for mobile apps, maintenance & repair and Microsoft’s System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) solution.

“Econocom provided us with a customised solution that was perfectly in line with our network and objectives. The SCCM solution, combined with Renault’s security system, meant the tablets could be rolled out across all our dealerships,” said Georges Miniscloux, IT Manager for Renault’s R‑Book Service project.

Charged as a monthly fee per tablet, the pay‑per‑use model means the client can align costs with its business.

Thus, 2000 Windows tablets were rolled out and remotely administrated by a secure infrastructure at the Econocom Cloud Center platform, enabling the customer service team to cultivate a more active customer approach by providing the right information at the right time. The tablets ensure more agile customer reception and simplify administrative tasks, enabling them to focus on customer care.

COMBINING PERFORMANCE AND WELL‑BEING IN THE WORKPLACE

Econocom assisted insurance group Apicil Group with Nov @, a programme designed to deploy a new, more agile working environment, with mobility and collaborative tools for employees. This major scheme, sponsored at C‑level and by the IT department, was rolled out over 15 months and included 14 projects to transform, integrate and secure 1,644 workstations.

Apicil Group’s objective was to maximise individual and collective efficiency of its employees by improving their IT infrastructure. The specifications of the Nov@ programme thus focused on performance, accessibility, ergonomics, user‑friendliness, comfort, modularity and data security. With more collaborative, mobile virtual workstations, employees can enjoy increased autonomy and are more efficient with their clients, partners and colleagues.

Econocom assisted the client throughout the Nov@ programme, from design through to deployment as well as transforming the service production processes and organisation. The aim was to deliver a high‑performance, sustainable architecture that matched employees’ requirements. Econocom

and Apicil Group worked together on the project in a spirit of complete cooperation and teamwork. At the end of April 2016, all the workstations migrated to Office 365 and Windows 8.1.

“We help our clients improve their social performance. But to do that means we have to improve our own performance first. Making Apicil Group an exemplary company where well‑being comes hand‑in‑hand with efficiency is one of the main focuses of our “Convergences 2016” strategic plan to increase employee engagement. And Nov@ is the cornerstone of this initiative,” said Pierre Mottier, CIO of Apicil Group.

ABOUT APICIL GROUP’S “CONVERGENCES 2016” Apicil Group is France’s 5th largest insurance company, specialising in health insurance and life assurance. The “Convergences 2016” strategic plan was launched in 2011 by Philippe Barret, Managing Director of Apicil Group, and one of its main priorities is to involve employees more in the company’s success. “MAPICIL,” the “strategic map” for each employee, measures their progress in terms of the targets set. An in‑house survey was also published in order to assess employees’ needs and identify priority areas of improvement, such as a health‑in‑the‑workplace programme called “Taking care of my health.”

INCREASED MOBILITY TO IMPROVE SUPPLY CHAIN PERFORMANCE

Norcod, a subsidiary of Digital Dimension, an Econocom Satellite, provided Bonduelle with rugged mobile devices for order‑picking and production‑tracking, from picking through to delivery.

Rather like a large smartphone with handles, the devices enable users to enter production data digitally and send it directly to the packing team to ensure optimal order‑picking. This ensures optimal traceability and productivity across the supply chain. The devices also display the location of the product and describe it in terms of its sell‑by date or packaging. They can also be used for stock‑taking, both in the warehouses and on the farms. Water and wind resistant, the devices are Wi‑Fi‑enabled and can be interfaced with ERP systems such as SAP and JDE.

Norcod provided Bonduelle with consulting, integration, maintenance and remote monitoring from its data centre in Villeneuve d’Ascq for all the client’s operations in France and overseas.

As an integrator, Norcod also gave Bonduelle its expert advice in terms of ergonomics and let operators test the equipment so they could choose the models best‑suited to their needs.

ABOUT BONDUELLEBonduelle Group, the global leader in ready‑to‑use vegetables, posted revenue of €1,981.8 million in 2015. Vegego 2025, the group’s strategic plan, aims to establish Bonduelle as the world leader for healthy nutrition and vegetable products. 22 projects have been launched as part of this programme, particularly in the field of innovation and digital transformation.

HOW DIGITAL EFFICIENCY CAN LEAD TO ENERGY EFFICIENCY

In smart buildings, resources are adjusted to actual needs and usage. Econocom helped Clinipole Group modernise its lighting infrastructure by providing a comprehensive smart lighting solution, including financing and deployment across 11 of the group’s establishments.

For the project, Econocom worked with its partner Clever‑Energies, an energy management specialist. Together they conducted an energy audit for Clinipole to determine the needs and restrictions of each building (natural light, over‑lighting, number of people, etc.) and offer a smart lighting solution which took into account the specific features of the premises and existing installations. Econocom was in charge of supplying the equipment, deployment, project follow‑up and financing.

Implementing the smart lighting programme enabled Clinipole to modernise its entire lighting infrastructure and cut costs in terms of both energy (45 % cost‑savings for lighting) and maintenance costs, thanks to the LED technology.

By providing lighting that is more like natural light, Clinipole was able to improve working conditions and hygiene for staff, patients and visitors.

The Lighting BU was set up by Econocom after this project to finance and support other smart projects.

THE MADRID METRO IN A NEW LIGHT

As part of its energy efficiency plan, the Autonomous Community of Madrid has chosen Caverin, a digital multimedia solutions specialist and Econocom Satellite, to replace the lighting system in 60 metro stations in the Spanish capital with LED solutions. Econocom’s formidable performance meant that the energy savings generated well exceeded targets.

Energy efficiency, particularly where public lighting is concerned, is a major concern for the public sector. 20 % of the world’s electricity is used for lighting: this consumption could be reduced by 12 % thanks to LED*.

In view of this, the Autonomous Community of Madrid decided to replace the lighting in 60 metro stations with LED. In order to make further energy savings, one of the requirements of the specifications was that the lights could be dimmed or brightened depending on the amount of passenger traffic.

For this project, Caverin used LG technologies for the lighting installations, with a wireless remote‑control feature. The lights can also be programmed to follow a schedule from Monday to Sunday. Caverin successfully addressed a number of challenges: handling a complex request, providing a tailored solution, considerable logistics coordination, particularly with LG, and a short lead‑time. In addition, deploying this innovative system generated 15 % more energy savings than expected.

ABOUT THE MADRID METROThe Madrid metro carries over three million passengers every day. The network is 294 kilometres long and features 13 lines and 301 stations.

AND TO GO FURTHER…A “Global Lighting Challenge” was launched during the COP21 in December 2015 in Paris to install 10 billion LED lights worldwide, which will avoid 801 million tonnes of CO2 emissions, the equivalent to displacing nearly 684 coal‑fired power plants around the world.

DEPLOYING DIGITAL TOOLS TO IMPROVE TEACHING METHODS AND THE PLEASURE OF LEARNING

Incorporate digital into the learning experience, implement teaching methods which reflect today’s world, and prepare students for the future: that’s what this school group aims to do. After a cautious but successful pilot phase conducted with Econocom for the 2015 / 2016 academic year with 35 teachers and 150 students from junior and senior secondary school, Saint Michel Group – Reims decided to extend the project to 430 more students for the 2016 academic year.

Econocom’s end‑to‑end solution includes supply of iPads and accessories, incorporating digital textbooks and learning apps, hardware maintenance, insurance and financing via an all‑inclusive fee.

Students now have a lighter but far more comprehensive schoolbag, including textbooks and teaching content devised specially by the teaching staff. The security policy drawn up for Saint Michel Group – Reims means the students can take their tablets home and use them for their homework.

Switching from traditional teaching methods to a digital approach is a complex matter. Training and assistance for the teaching staff was therefore provided by PADAGOGIE, Econocom’s 100% dedicated education offering. Thanks to this service, provided by teachers specialising in using new technologies in the classroom, Saint Michel Group – Reims was able to prepare and build its digital education project effectively.

FASTER CHECK‑OUT THANKS TO AN AGILE CASH REGISTER SOLUTION

As check‑out is a critical stage of the customer experience, INFO.U, the IT purchasing division of supermarket chain U, wanted to refresh its fleet of tills at the 1,147 U stores in France and chose Econocom to finance this large‑scale project. This new project illustrates the strong trust established in the course of Econocom and INFO. U’s ten‑year collaboration.

In 2015, INFO.U turned to Econocom to lease all its critical hardware – the 14,500 checkout machines at its 1,147 supermarkets all over France.

Econocom was able to meet INFO.U’s requirements with a comprehensive financing offer including a centralised leasing solution whereby INFO.U cross‑charges the supermarkets directly for the equipment leased. The client can thus benefit from maximum flexibility and complete visibility over its assets, thanks to a series of quarterly contracts covered by a master agreement.

With this project, INFO.U was able to maintain its funding capacity to support its growth whilst rolling out innovative, creative solutions. The supermarket chain can now offer shoppers a smooth, optimised shopping experience and thus maintain its competitive edge.
