Digital Learning Day This collection of activity ideas has been developed by the KSU instructional technology coaches. The activities were built to accommodate digital learning for grades K-5 and serve as examples of work that could be assigned to students. The subjects vary and are integrated throughout the activities.

K-2 Math Review Learning Menu

20 minutes of Redbird

Math Fact Fluency

Soup/ Salad (Required, 5 points)

Kindergarten-

Main Course (20 points) (Required, Choose 1)

1. Login to SAFARI Montage and listen to the story How Big is the Foot. Complete this activity and post to Padlet.

2. Listen to Inch by Inch . Complete this activity and post to Padlet. Explain how you can tell if something is

shorter or longer in a video reflection on Padlet.

3. Choose a nonstandard measuring tool (ex. foot, markers, paperclips, pencils, etc.) and measure 5 objects.

Fill out the Measure It chart and post a picture of the completed chart to class dojo. 4. Measure a family member or a friend and explain 1 way you could figure out who is the tallest and who is the shortest.

Record your answer on the recording sheet provided.

1st Grade-

1. Let your students pick a measurement tool (cubes, counters, dominoes, craft sticks, etc. all work well) &

estimate/measure 5 objects.

2. Pick 5 objects to measure. Fill out the Measure It chart and post to Padlet. Answer these questions on Padlet in

a video or post. Were your estimates close? Why or why not? How can you improve your estimations?

3. Measure a family member or friend and post to Padlet. Explain what went well and what didn’t.

4. Keep a time journal. Check the clock throughout the day, record the time you see, then tell what you were doing at that time.

5. Review addition by playing a card game! You can play by yourself or with family. Each person gets a stack of cards. Take out the face cards. You want to get to the number 17 by flipping cards and adding or subtracting the numbers you get.

2nd Grade-

1. Go to Khan Academy lesson- Take a picture of your progress and post to Padlet. Record a video in Padlet teaching a

friend how to tell time.

2. Play Telling Time Game. Take a screenshot when you get a score of 10. Record a video explain to your parent how a

clock works.

Kindergarten- Play Sid the Science Kid-Fab Lab to measure rocks using nonstandard units of measure. 1st Grade- Play PBS Kids Measurement. Design a project of your choice explaining how to use a ruler. 2nd Grade- Play Time is Running Out Card game. Print off these cards and play with a grownup. Card game directions are included at the bottom of the linked document.

1. Watch video reviewing the characteristics of Living Things.

2. Read through PowerPoint slideshow asking and answering questions about whether things are living or nonliving.

3. Go on a hunt for different types of living and nonliving items in and around your house and draw picture or make a list of what

you discover.

4. Review vowel sounds (chapter 2 ) and try to write some more words you could think that have the short /i/ sound.

5. Go on a hunt for different types of living and nonliving items in and around your house and draw pictures, make a video, or make a list of what you discover.

First Grade

1. Watch videos on this Needs of Living Things playlist.

2. Play game, Growing Plants, to explore a simulation testing the effects of water, air and sun on plant growth.

3. Make a plan of action for steps you would take in beginning your own spring garden. List your steps as first, next, then and last.

Create a supply list for what items you'll need to care for the plants.

4. Review the digraph ‘sh’ and try to write words you can think of that contain the /sh/ sound.

5. Go on a scavenger hunt. Look inside and out for items that begin with /sh/. Write the word and draw a picture.

Second Grade

1. Watch videos on this Astronomy playlist

2. Visit BrainPOP Jr. to view their video on The Sun and practice reviewing the content with accompanying activities.

3. Review prefixes and suffixes then see if you can think of words that begin with the prefix, re- and un-, and suffix, -less and –ful.

4. Draw three boxes on your paper. Illustrate and write about the beginning, middle and end of the story. (read your favorite book)

5. Have you ever had a snow day when school was closed? Write about what you did instead of going to school. (Narrative writing)

6. What would you like to be when you grow up? Write an informative piece about that occupation. (Informative writing)

PowerPoint presentation to play Hollywood Squares game reviewing the needs of a plant. Second Grade - Keep a 'sun' journal for a

day to document how the sun affects shadows of objects. Pick a stationary object to observe then draw or write about how the

object's shadow appeared in the morning, noon, afternoon and evening.

Kindergarten-

Main Course (Required, Choose 1, 20 points)

1. Watch assorted American Symbols videos through SAFARI Montage.

2. Add information to a classroom Padlet wall reviewing sharing 1 fact you learned and 1 thing you found interesting or wonder about American Symbols.

3. Practice clapping the syllables in the words: Washington, Lincoln, president, leader, monument, flag, America, Eagle, house, bell

4. Write sentences to tell about the images in this slideshow. Identify by highlighting, circling or underlining the sight words you included in each sentence.

First Grade

1. Watch SAFARI Montage playlist on Economics.

2. View the scenarios on this slideshow and review what you would do in that situation on a sheet of paper or through a classroom

Padlet wall.

3. Watch the BrainPOP Jr. video from the 'Reading and Writing'/'Phonics' section on 'th, sh and wh' and practice with the accompanying

activities such as: quiz, games and word play.

4. View videos about types of sentences, then create on a separate sheet of paper a sentence for statement, command,

exclamation and question.

5. Write a narrative sharing about a time you visited family. Who did you visit? What did you do with them?

6. Pick a historical figure we have learned about so far (George Washington Carver, Ruby Bridges, Lewis & Clark, Sacagawea,

Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin), then write 4 sentences about how that person made our country a better place.

Second Grade

1. Watch the videos on the playlist, Money and Bartering.

2. Play game, Money or Barter, to sort statements into categories.

3. Practice fluently reading with Mother Goose's Nursery Rhymes - work on your rate and expression.

4. Watch the BrainPOP Jr. Video, Poems and practice with the accompanying activities such as: quiz, games and word play.

5. Write a paragraph that includes three facts about Mary Musgrove, James Oglethorpe, and Tomochichi. Draw a picture about one of the

three list in the previous sentence that shows a text feature you have learned.

6. Write a paragraph explaining how wants are different from needs. Make a list of ten wants and a list of ten needs.

Grade 3 and 4

• Log on to SAFARI Montage and watch Who Wrote That Paragraph? , students will identify parts of good paragraph and post response to class padlet (teacher create). Teacher create a quiz in Microsoft Forms to assess students’ comprehension of the video. A five question quiz is linked with the video under a teacher login to SAFARI Montage.

• March 2nd is “Read Across America Day” in honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday. Explain to a younger student why it’s important to learn how to read.

Grade 5

• Log on to SAFARI Montage and watch Story Writing. Pick out your favorite picture book to share on a class Padlet. You will identify the elements that make up their stories and record these elements using story maps.

• Use the Read and Respond Nonfiction Graphic Organizer to develop a story you create.

• Use the Fiction Graphic Organizer to develop a story you create.

• Write a narrative about going back in history to a different time period. Where did you go? What famous person(s) did you meet? Compare and contrast the time period to what is happening now.

• Pick an African-American inventor that you created a Google slide about. Create an anchor chart with significant information about your person that can be displayed in the hallway.

Grade 3-5

• Log on to BrainPOP and watch Writing Process. Print and take the quiz after the short clip. Follow up with creating make-a-map about the writing process.

• On March 3, 1847, inventor Alexander Graham Bell was born. Bell is probably best known for his development of the telephone. What do you think our telephones will be like in 20 years? Draw a picture of the phone and compare/contrast the features and function of the phone to one of today’s telephones.

• Create a short piece of writing for each text structure:

o Description, Sequence, Compare & Contrast, Cause & Effect, Problem & Solution

• Create an anchor chart for writing a good paragraph. Make sure to include the questions that every good writer should ask as they begin to write a paragraph. Who or what will I write about? Why am I writing about this subject? Who will read my paragraph? What kind of paragraph should I write?

• Extend activity 2 by writing new stories featuring characters from your favorite picture books.

Grades 3-5 Science Learning Menu

Third Grade

• Log on to BrainPOP and watch Fossils video.

• Make a Sway (Office 365 app) about the topic and explain how fossils vary across Georgia.

• Create a graphic organizer that explains the process of making a fossil.

Fourth Grade

• Log on to BrainPOP and watch videos about the different simple machines.

• Look around your home and try to find 2-3 different simple machines. Take pictures of them and upload them to a Sway. Write captions to explain how forces are changed and how the machine makes work easier.

• Locate 3 transparent, translucent, and opaque objects in your home. Write to explain how each object should be classified.

Fifth Grade

• Log on to BrainPOP and watch Property Changes .

• Make a Sway (Office 365 app) to explain how chemical and physical changes are alike and different.

• Create a magazine advertisement for a microorganism. The advertisement must include the benefits and harmful attributes of the microorganism.

• Design a game that concentrates on the benefits of microorganisms. The game must include a rules booklet.

Third Grade

• Watch playlist from SAFARI Montage about Fossils.

• Pretend you are an archaeologist living in the Georgia Swamp. What kind of fossils could you find and how would it look?

Fourth Grade

• Play the Simple Machines game.

• Watch playlist from SAFARI Montage about Physical and Chemical Changes.

2. On SAFARI Montage watch Area of Rectangles playlist. Complete all the activities on the playlist.

3. Log on to BrainPOP and watch a review math video (ex. multiplication, division, estimating, rounding). Take and print the end of movie

quiz and re-create your own quiz on the topic.

4. Create a model, poster, foldable or mosaic to compare fractions.

4th Grade

1. Watch Fractions: Concepts & Operations on SAFARI Montage. Create a scrapbook of 10 fractions terms. Draw and write captions for each

term. Include terms you used in class.

2. Watch Exploring Fractions on SAFARI Montage. Make your own 10 question fractions quiz and answer key. Include concepts you learned in

class.

3. Log on to BrainPOP and watch a review math video. Pick one of these topics to search for:

• Order of operations

• multiplying decimals

• dividing decimals

• multiplying and dividing fractions

• adding and subtracting fractions.

• Take and print the end of movie quiz. Use BrainPOP Make-A-Map to create your own Spider Map about the math topic.

5th Grade

1. Students should choose which fractions topic they need further review with and work through the activities on the SAFARI Montage

playlist.

precipitation. • Record your weather predictions for the next 3 days.

Main Course (Required) CHOOSE 1 • Chocolate Kiss Experiment- Follow the directions listed on the experiment.

Record your results. • Look around your home and try to find 2-3 different simple machines. Write

about what each machine you found does. Draw a picture of the machines you found to go with your writing.
