Global SpeakersProf Gallucci is the Chair of the department of Restorative Dentistry and Biomaterials Sciences and the Head of the Division of Regenerative and Implant Sciences at Harvard School of Dental Medicine. He obtained his Doctorate in Dental Medicine at the department of Prosthodontics, School of Dental Medicine at the University of Geneva. He participates in clinical research related to implant-prosthodontics and Digital Dentistry. He is widely published in journals and is member of the editorial board for several scientific dental journals. He is fellow of the International Team for Implantology (ITI), Switzerland, and active member of the Academy of Osseointegration (AO) – USA, European Academy of Osseointegration (EAO), Greater New York Academy of Prosthodontics, (GNYAP) and International Academy of Dental Research (IADR).

Dr Chow received his BDS and oral and maxillofacial surgical training in the University of Hong Kong. He had long services in public hospital. Currently he is working in the Brånemark Osseointegration Centres both in Hong Kong and Shanghai. He was the past president of the Hong Kong Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Councillor of the Asian and International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He also holds the post of Honorary Clinical Associate Professor in the University of Hong Kong.

Dr Kiat is the Head and Senior Consultant, Dental Service, KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital. He teaches both the post-graduate Orthodontic Program as well as the Paediatric Dentistry post-graduate program. He is currently the Chief Dental Officer of Singapore as of 1st May 2018 and is the Registrar of the Singapore Dental Council. He is a member of the Dental Specialist Accreditation Board in Singapore. His areas of interest include biomaterials, cleft and its relation to airway space and sleep apnea; and on Surgery-First.

Dr Hanlin is Associate Dean (Clinical) and a Senior Lecturer in Prosthodontics, within the Department of Oral Rehabilitation, Faculty of Dentistry, University of Otago. She is a registered specialist prosthodontist in Australia and New Zealand, a past Treasurer and Councillor of the RACDS, and a past president of the Victorian Branch of the ADA. She has held diverse roles in dental organisations and lectured extensively in both Australia and New Zealand during her career. Her research interests are in practice-based research, implant dentistry and education in prosthodontics.

Prof Rich is the Deputy Dean, Head of Department of Diagnostic and Surgical Science, Department of Oral Diagnostic and Surgical Sciences at Otago University. Alison is the Head of the Medlab Dental Oral Pathology Diagnostic Service which provides specialist diagnostic oral pathology reports to dentists and to dental specialists and to anatomical pathologists. Prof Rich is widely published, and she is part of a national team investigating dental work force issues in New Zealand.

Dr Theresia Sudjalim is a Fellow with the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons. She graduated with six commendations for the Primary Examinations and was awarded the Kenneth J.G. Sutherland prize. She completed a Doctor of Clinical Dentistry degree specialising in Orthodontics from the University of Melbourne in 2007 and was awarded the Dean’s Medal from the Royal College of Dental Surgeons, Edinburgh. She is president of the Australian Dental Association Greater Dandenong Group, and is the President-elect of the Australian Society of Orthodontists Communications and Information Committee.

Prof Scarfe graduated from the University of Adelaide School of Dentistry in 1982 and was awarded Fellowship in the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons in 1986. Dr Scarfe is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology and a registered specialist in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiologist in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. He is Past-VP and Past North American Regional Director of the International Association of Dento-Maxillofacial Radiology. He is a member of Journal Editorial Advisory Board for the Australian Dental Journal. He is a reviewer for over 30 prominent journals. Prof Scarfe has published extensively on cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) including recent consensus statements on general and specific use guidelines and discipline specific applications of CBCT.

A/Prof Barnett has dual fellowships in neonatal/perinatal medicine and clinical genetics and is the head of the Paediatric and Reproductive Genetics Unit at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Adelaide. He is the clinical lead of

the NHMRC funded Genomic Autopsy Project. His neonatal training was done at University of Adelaide and the University of Toronto and The Hospital for Sick Children. He is a past president of the Perinatal Society of Australia and New Zealand (PSANZ) SA Branch. He has research interests in prenatal genetics, fetal pathology and rare diseases, and has 79 publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Dr Ivanovski is the Professor of Periodontology at the University of Queensland School of Dentistry where he leads the specialist training program in periodontology. He currently combines this position with his part time specialist practice in

periodontics and surgical implant dentistry. Saso is a past federal president of the Australasian Osseointegration Society (AOS) and the Australian Society of Periodontology (ASP). He has published over 120 articles in the peer-reviewed literature and leads a research group with an interest in oro-dental regeneration, tissue engineering and implantology.

Prof Davies (MPH, PhD), is an epidemiologist within the Robinson Institute at the University of Adelaide. He also co-directs the Lifecourse and Intergenerational Health Research Group. He has a MPH in Dental Public Health, and a PhD in

epidemiology concerning socioeconomic variations in children’s dental health. In 2012 he published a major study on the risk of birth defects after infertility treatment that was, for the first time, able to identify both patient and specific treatment factors related to these important outcomes.

Prof Goldfeld is a paediatrician and Deputy Director, Centre for Community Child Health (CCCH) the Royal Children’s Hospital and Co-Group leader of Child Health Policy, Equity and Translation at the Murdoch Childrens Research

Institute. She has a decade of experience in state government as a senior policymaker in health and education including Principal Medical Advisor in the Victorian Department of Education and Training. As an experienced policymaker, public health and paediatric researcher she aims to ensure ongoing effective, rapid translation of research into the policy and service arena.

Dr McLaughlin was attained Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1995 and returned to gain MClinDent with distinction, followed by the MRD RCS specialty exit qualification. He is a Staff Specialist

prosthodontist at Westmead Centre for Oral Health, Sydney focusing on management of complex oral care. He also maintains a private referral-based practice. Dr McLaughlin has been a Senior Clinical Lecturer to the graduate prosthodontics program of the University of Sydney since 2006 and is a member of the program planning committee.

Dr Roessler is a Prosthodontist in private practice in Sydney’s CBD. He is also an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Sydney. David has authored numerous publications and is an invited lecturer and

examiner to both undergraduate and graduate students at a number of Universities as well as being an Examiner for the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons.

Dr David Roessler

Julie has more than 20 years of post-admission legal experience. In addition to undergraduate degrees in Science and Law, she holds a Master of Laws from the University of Sydney and is an Accredited Specialist in

Defendant Personal Injury litigation. In 2013, Julie was appointed as an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Notre Dame Australia’s School of Medicine in Sydney. She has been a member of the Human Research Ethics Committee of Concord Repatriation General Hospital since 2006, and is currently a member of the Medico-legal Liaison Committee of the Law Society of NSW.

Ms Julie Brooke-CowdenDr Balasubramaniam is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orofacial Pain. In addition, Ramesh completed specialist training in Oral Medicine, and a Fellowship in Interdisciplinary Geriatrics at the UPenn. He has numerous

peer reviewed publications, and is co-editor and co-author of “Contemporary Oral Medicine” (Springer, 2018). He is appointed Clin Associate Professor at the School of Dentistry, UWA. He is president-elect of the Oral Medicine Academy of Australasia. His Oral Medicine Specialist practice focuses on Orofacial Pain, Oral Diseases and Disorders, and Dental Sleep Medicine.

Dr Clark is a Clinical Professor at Sydney Medical School, University of Sydney. He is director of Research, Sydney Head and Neck Cancer Institute at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse; Head and Neck Research Lead, RPA Institute

of Academic Surgery; Director, international fellowship program at the Sydney Head and Neck Cancer Institute. He has published 170 peer review journal publications. He is Regional director representing Australia in the Global Fellowship for the International Federation of Head and Neck Oncological Societies and founding member of the Steering Committee, AO Craniomaxillofacial Australasia.

Prof Jonathan ClarkDr Dimitroulis has been in specialist surgical practice since 1995. He heads the Maxillofacial Unit at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne and is on the editorial board of numerous Journals including the International Journal of Oral &

Maxillofacial Surgery where he is Section Chairman for TMJ surgery. He has authored six books, numerous chapters in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, and has published over 50 scientific articles in peer-review journals. He is also the founding Director of OMX Solutions, a Melbourne based start-up biotech company that provides print to order medical devices for Craniomaxillofacial surgery.

Dr Mahoney is a Paediatric Dental Consultant at Hutt Valley DHB in Wellington. Erin graduated from Otago in 1995 and with her specialty in Paediatric Dentistry from Sydney in 2001 and PhD in 2005. She completed her Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons in General Dentistry in 2001. Erin is the Chair of the College Regional Committee, an examiner for the Membership and for the Fellowship examination in the elective section of Paediatric Dentist and Orthodontics.

CPD Masterclasses

In this masterclass several treatment sequences will be presented and categorized according to their corresponding prosthetic designs. Presented in a systematic way, clinical, scientific, and implant related information will lead to translational clinical recommendations in the treatment of edentulous jaws with fixed prosthesis. By the end of this masterclass you will:

• Have the ability to assess different implant prosthodontic designs

• Have the opportunity to discuss different loading protocols

• Be equipped to successfully evaluate long-term treatment outcome

This masterclass will use specific cases to demonstrate the fundamental concepts and mechanics of CBCT navigation using various software and provide guidelines on which to generate interpretation reports using “voxel vision”. By the end of this masterclass you will:

• Be familiar with the use of dental imaging software in CBCT interpretation

• Comprehend the systematic mechanics of interpreting 3D volumetric images towards Voxel Vision

• Be aware of and appreciate the significance of common incidental findings in CBCT imaging

Using cases that may present to the general dental practitioner, Erin will work you through how to deal with diagnosis, planning and treatment of our wonderful child patients. By the end of this masterclass participants will:

• Understand how Paediatric Dentist examine a dental patient and how this can be used in your practice

• Understand how parents and caregivers of our patients can be our biggest allies

• Diagnose common but tricky dilemmas that present in our clinics and appropriate special tests

Dr Farmer graduated from the University of Adelaide in 1993 and Masters of Dental Surgery (Endodontics) in 2001 and has been in specialist endodontic practice since this time. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons, the International College of Dentists, and the Academy of Dentistry International. He is a Senior Visiting Consultant in Endodontics at University of Adelaide. He is a past state and federal president of the Australian Society of Endodontology.

A/Prof Liberali is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons, the International College of Dentists (FICD), and the Pierre Fauchard Academy. She is the Director and Senior Consultant of the Special Needs Unit, Adelaide Dental Hospital, SA Dental Service, and holds an honorary Associate Dental Consultant position at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. She is the Program Director of the specialist training program in Special Needs Dentistry at the School of Dentistry, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Adelaide and is the Principal Dentist at Health Partners Dental.

This masterclass will help to deal with the acutely inflamed pulp, the acute periapical infection or the inter appointment flare up using case scenarios focusing on treatment strategies to help manage the patient and their pain as effectively and efficiently as possible. By the end of this masterclass you will:

• Have a clear understanding of the cause of the dental pain and inter appointment flare up

• Be familiar with techniques providing better anaesthesia for the acutely inflamed and infected pulp

• Have strategies in place to know what needs to be done to resolve the origin of the dental pain

This masterclass will focus on common clinical challenges managing special needs patients including treatment planning, decision making, and provision encompassing preventive, diagnostic and treatment services for a tailored delivery of care. By the end of this masterclass you will:

• Understand the various types and complexities of special needs patients in general dental practice

• Recognise the various strategies available for holistic comprehensive management of the oral health care

• Appreciate the role of patient, carer/family and dental practitioner in maintaining good dental health

This masterclass will focus on decision making challenges around patients presenting with a compromised dentition with advanced periodontal bone loss. Using multiple clinical cases Andre shows how and why to treat periodontally or extract and replace. By the end of this masterclass you will:

• Understand the periodontal and restorative variables around tooth prognosis

• Appreciate treatment protocols for initial treatment as well as long-term maintenance of periodontally compromised dentitions and implant borne prostheses

• Understand the common and technically problematic area of managing fixtures with peri-implantitis

Dr Bendyk completed his specialist training in Periodontics and Implant Dentistry at the University of Adelaide in 2007. He is a Past President of the Australian Society of Periodontology, a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons and a Fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy. He has been a Senior Lecturer and Examiner at the University of Adelaide. His clinical and scientific interests are in the areas of dental implantology, hard and soft tissue grafting and advanced periodontitis.
