The DigipakThe Digipak is type of CD packaging that became popular in the early 2000s. It consists of a gatefold style case usually made of paper or cardboard on the outside, with one or more plastic CD holders inside. They usually have some leaflets with lyrics and art somewhere inside the case. The term was first trademarked by IMPAC group in the late 1990s.

The DigipakThe trademark on the Term “Digipak” was acquired MeadWestVaco (WMV) in 2000. The company then began to license the Digipak concept out to manufacturers around the world. This is when the Digipak began to be used more widely.

The DigipakMWV sold their AGI Media company to Atlas Holdings in 2010.In 2012, Atlas purchased purchased Shorewood Packaging and merged it with AGI Media to create AGI-Shorewood, which are the current holders to the rights of the digipak.

The DigipakIt is often used for special editions of CDs, as well as music DVD Sets (DVDigipaks)

Manufacturers realised the environmental impact that mass producing digipaks had. Some manufacturers announced that they producing a PET tray made from recycled bottles

Some even removed the plastic tray and replaced it with one made from sugarcane and egg
